GOP rivals have different takes on Mormon faith
SALT LAKE CITY - Republican presidential primary rivals Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman are both Mormons whose ancestral roots run deep into the church’s pioneer history ... Romney is highly active and orthodox - he was a top local lay leader in Massachusetts for years, and he has embraced his church unequivocally ... Huntsman has called his adherence to Mormon practices “tough to define.’’ He has described himself as more spiritual than religious and as someone who gets “satisfaction from many different types of religions and philosophies" ... Both candidates declined to be interviewed for this article ... http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2011/08/15/gop_rivals_have_different_takes_on_mormon_faith/

1. I have to admit after reading this I have a lot more respect for Huntsman than I do the other GOP
candidates. At least he seems open to other people's beliefs. I didn't know he supported gay rights in Utah, he actually seems like a halfway decent person, which, sadly,is very rare in the Republican Party.

2. "As the economy falters, more and more Americans want to turn back to our past values,
like the values of Freewheeling Franklin, who said: Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope. In tough economic times, Americans don't want an educated President who can talk nice -- Americans want a President we can toke up with. Jon Huntsmen isn't another egghead who worries about international policy. It would be cool to smoke a doobie with Jon. He's a Mormon: they're the folk who brought us LDS. And he dropped out of high school to join a rock band. You know could get stoned with Jon and shoot the bull about Hinduism and rock music and LDS, instead of having to listen to all the usual boring stuff about the trade deficit and manufacturing jobs and health care and so on"
