2. Here's a news article on it.

Can't cut and paste the pdf but there's a two page summary on pages 1 and 2.

4. Interesting survey.
I was a bit bemused about how they chose to present some of the data - for example, the reliance (until the very end of the survey results) on only comparing two age groups: 18-29 and 65+. It's the easiest way to show difference, but tends to obscure the reality a bit.

I also thought it would be nice to know what the percentage of evangelicals is in the country. Found a few reports, most based on a 2008 survey ( http://www.americanreligionsurvey-aris.org/2009/03/catholics_on_the_move_non-religious_on_the_rise.html ), that suggest around 34 or 35% and growing. Knowing that does help put the data in better perspective, I think. I wasn't, unfortunately, able to find similar stats for 'Black Protestants', although the 2007 Pew Research Poll suggests that 75% of Black Americans (http://religions.pewforum.org/reports ) consider themselves 'religious' in some fashion.

Thanks for posting the survey link, rug.

5. In the big Pew survey, BP's are 6.9%. Evangelicals 33, Mainline 18
The underlying assumption though is that these perceptions remain for life. In reality the tendency to conservatism grows with age. Today's 20 somethings may not be identical to their grandparents in 40 years, but they will certainly be a lot closer than they are now.
