Selling the End of Religion

The Gruen Transfer is an Australian television show that focuses on advertising. One of their regular segments is called “The Pitch,” where “ad agencies compete to sell the unsellable.” In other words, ad agencies are challenged to put together an ad for something like bringing back child labor, or tourism in Bagdad, or whale meat. Apparently they got in trouble for a episode where they proposed a war on New Zealand.

This one is apparently one of their most controversial: sell a ban on all religion. Only two agencies were willing to take the challenge.

Wow. On a show that kind of makes a joke about selling the unsellable, the two agencies actually made two VERY compelling arguments, using fact and reason. Those are some very brave people. Bravo!

both were excellent. It is true the second one had more emotional impact. Which is why I give the first one the edge. I have a hard time getting my head around using emotion to appeal to people's logic.

5. In order to be totally logical about the proposition of banning religion,

it should be made as less the propaganda campaign as it is, by comparison to the real-world experiment where religion was banned, which of course would be the USSR, China, Eastern Europe, South Asia, etc.
