Obama proclaims National Days of Prayer and Remembrance
Washington (CNN) – Commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11, President Barack Obama proclaimed this weekend, Friday though Sunday, as National Days of Prayer and Remembrance.

“Today, our nation still faces great challenges, but this last decade has proven once more that, as a people, we emerge from our trials stronger than before,” Obama said in a statement Friday.

The president called on Americans to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks through activities such as prayer, memorial services, the ringing of bells, and evening candlelight remembrance vigils.

Obama also urged citizens to remember those among “the 9/11 generation” of service members who have “come of age bearing the burden of war,” with some paying the ultimate sacrifice.

1. I don't need to be called to religious ritual
by the chief magistrate of the nation. There is no need for a call either to religious observance or irreligion by any government official.

3. Once again demonstrating that no one loses political points
for ignoring, rejecting, or just pissing on those who don't pray.

Furthermore, a proclamation from the President regarding prayer has a first amendment problem.

12. Two points:
First, "for ignoring, rejecting, or just pissing on those who don't pray." - No one is being forced to pray or do anything.

Secondly, "Furthermore, a proclamation from the President regarding prayer has a first amendment problem." - The First Amendment doesn't even address such an action. It prevents establishment of a state religion and it guarantees the free exercise of religion. Period.

13. Hypocritical how clergy couldn't go to the memorial yet Obama gets to do this
and according to the Wash. Post, Obama read from Psalm 46! "The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved. He uttered his voice. The earth melted. The Lord of Hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Come behold the works of the Lord who has made desolations in the Earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the Earth." It better be of a literary nature, not proselytizing.
