'JesusWeen' the Latest Failure to Grasp the Point of Halloween

A pastor in Calgary, Canada, isn't too happy about the idea of Halloween. Not Christian enough, he says. So he's promoting something he calls "Jesus Ween." People tend to lump everything that scare them into one category and call it "evil." Usually, these scary things are synonymous with things they simply don't understand. (Hence, for instance, many straight Christians view homosexuality as "evil.") Halloween is just another thing many fundamentalist Christians can't, and frankly don't want to, understand.

Every year, the world and its system have a day set aside (October 31st) to celebrate ungodly images and evil characters while Christians all over the world participate, hide or just stay quiet on Halloween day. Being a day that is widely acceptable to solicit and knock on doors, God inspired us to encourage Christians to use this day as an opportunity to spread the gospel. The days of hiding are over and we choose to take a stand for Jesus. “Evil prevails when good people do nothing”. JesusWeen is expected to become the most effective Christian outreach day ever and that is why we also call it” World Evangelism Day”.

So basically, instead of giving out candy, these people will give out bibles and spread the word.

Yeah, as a kid nothing would have made me a bigger fan of Jesus than to get a bible on Hallowe'en instead of a Snickers bar.

12. How silly when Halloween was actually the attempt of the Christian Church to prempt and co-op the

Celtic celebration of Samhain (end of summer/beginning of the dark). Two major Celtic celbrations were Samhain adn Beltane (beginning of the light).

Many of the Christian Church Holidays were preemptions of pagan holidays:

Easter, Ostara, Saturnalia

Christmas, Yule

May Day, Beltane

Groundhog Day, Imbolc

Valentine's day, Candlemas

13. As for Halloween

It is not yet celebrated in Japan, but the interest is growing. Most of it started out in Okinawa on the Military bases and has jumped the fence.. to small pockets in Japan, where kids actually go door to door for Candy in costume! Perhaps it will be come a full blown holiday, as the Japanese love horror movies, and have been making Monster movies for years.

In Shinto, there are many tales of Yokai(demons), Bakemono (monsters), oni (fearsome ogres),Tengu (long-nosed goblins), Kappa(water creatures)Zashiki-warashi, (house spirits)and a huge host of other creatures:

I have always loved this holiday, because any time you can get candy for free, has to be a great holiday!
