And I didn't twist anything. They're statements made by Christians. Go to the site and see for yourself. Stop pretending you're so persecuted just because you don't like what some of your faith-mates have to say.

11. You attributed them to all, as you judge all. Save the "persecution" rant ....
You have a great talent for apply the words of one, generally one who is in error, then applying them to all.
You have a habit of doing this. I have a little newsflash for ya, we're all judged individually.
Anyone who does otherwise is only using their hate to feed their ego.
I won't attack any other groups using your words, however, I will call you out on your prejudice.
I await your next anti-faith screed.

16. Hey Kurmudgeon
In other threads you have no problem lumping people together for the company they keep
So if you want to call yourself a Christian then it is okay to lump you all together
How are we suppose to know who is who, maybe some special uniform or name tag??

See the problem of putting a label on people, it just makes it easier to lump them all together

Kinda of hard to tell the real ones from the maybes..........

NMMNG is one of the most tolerant members of this board - it kinda comes with the territory when you've REALLY been targeted by hate groups.

This is R/T, qualifiers are always polite but not usually necessary. If you think you've been slandered, hit alert.

You need to grow a thicker skin if you want to hang in here.

crazy ones to lead in national policy. Essentially destroying the separation of church and state. Vouchers, proud proclamations that one is A CHRISTIAN when running for public office. Consciousness clauses for those in professions that provide essential services. The so-called liberal Christians have been effectively mute while their batshit crazy sisters and brothers have run amok.

Weak bleating and washing of blood off your hands on a political discussion board will not undo the damage.

7. +1000
I'm sick to death of the liberal Christians giving us shit whenever we denounce the bigotry, intolerance and utter lunacy of the RRRW fundagelicals. If liberal Christians don't like being associated with the RRRWers who claim they are the face of Christianity then the liberal Christians need to speak to the RRRWers about that. Instead they choose to band with the RRRW and try to bully the atheists, LGBT people and minority religious groups (who are already targeted by the RRRW) just because those groups are fighting to denounce the hatred and oppression of the RRRW. The problem lies within Christianity, not without.

13. "fundgelicals"? Again, you assume you know what I've done with my life.
I've had friends and family shun me due to the fact I WON"T bear false witness on the crimes of the GOP.
And I come here to Democratic Underground where supposedly people of the same ideals congregate.
And what do I find, YOU and haters like you, smearing people of faith and driving them away from the values of the Left and to the right wing corporatists.
YOU have done a better job for the Right of recruiting their ranks than 1000 Rush Limbaughs.
No one has "bullied" you unless you somehow think that anyone who doesn't agree with your screeds is a bully.
That wouldn't surprise me at all, actually.
Christianity isn't the problem, it's a combination of Christians who don't or won't live by Christ's Word and attacks by people like you who don't even understand what Christ said. All you do is reinforce those who have misused faith in the past.
You're NOT helping....
I'm sure the Koch Brothers would shake your hand though.

18. I read the Bible everyday, have researched religion for 40 years
and I have read Christ's words and have found some of your replies to different threads and find some of your comments very un-Christ like

There are two types of Christians: Ones with capital C and ones with small letter c
The ones with the capital C live their life the best they can
The ones with small letter c try to force their religion on others
I hate the small letter c christians
I have no problem with the capital letter C christians
It is up to you to decide which one you are.........

And as far as the same ideals: it is my opinion that the killing of any civilian in the war on terror is way outside the bounds of any Christian and should be attacked to the fullest. Just because my elected and non-elected leaders tell me so, is not good enough for me. Show me the facts to back up the killing.

Iraq: over 100,000 civilians killed, were they all terrorists??
Afghanistan: Those mothers and children killed by drones, all terrorists, or maybe they might become one when family memebers are killed.

We create more terrorists than we kill

30. Your're so stuck in persecution mode you can't read straight
Fundagelicals are the RRRW haters--the ones you claim "don't live by Christ's word". Of course they think they're living by Christ's word just fine, as you think you are. Neither one of you have any more authority in the matter AFAIC. You all say you're Christians and who am I to say any different?

I've had friends and family shun me due to the fact I WON"T bear false witness on the crimes of the GOP.

Who's asking you to "bear false witness"? The crimes are there for all the world to see. Asking you to denounce them rather than rake over the coals those who have the spine to denounce them isn't asking you to "bear false witness". It's asking you to stop being a whiny hypocrite. If you don't like what they're doing in the name of your religion, in the name of your Lord and Savior, then it's your responsibility to step up and say something. Don't sit back doing nothing, then go postal all over the people who dare to challenge the scumbuckets.

Christianity isn't the problem

Yes it is. It's everything to everyone. People take out of it what they want to. They select the Bible verses and dogma they agree with and ignore/discard the rest. Then they screech when somebody associates them with other types of Christians. I'm not like those other Christians!1!! Those aren't TRUE CHRISTIANS! Sorry, dear, they're all "True Christians" because that's how Christianity works.

people like you who don't even understand what Christ said

I was a Christian for 20 years. I know very well what Christ said. I don't think you reflect it very well.

12. I've been against the GOP and right wing militarism for years, many of us have.
You're doing plenty of bleating yourself, however , I don't think you're near so luminous as you think you are.
You should change your name to Judgmental Animal, setting in judgment on people you've never met as you apply your preconceived bias.
I'm not mute, I'm talking to you, aren't I?
However, I bet you've done a FANTASTIC job of driving people of faith to the Republicans.
Why would anyone vote Democratic after reading your bile?
The GOP uses the words of people like you to increase their ranks, that's what happens when you act like a TOOL.
YOU GET USED.
Believe what you want, just don't be such an ass about it.

24. A long lost post from another DU'er put it another way:
(explaining why he wasn't attacking christians on DU)

I Only Get Angry With Christians Who Try to Pretend Their Church Isn't a Haven of Bigotry.
And, of course, those (MANY) christians who practice bigotry overtly.

You have never seen - and never will see - an OP from me "attacking" religion out of the blue, for no other reason than to criticize and ridicule christians or other religious people. Nor will you see such an OP from the vast majority of non-religious people on DU. What you HAVE seen - and will continue to see - are responses to posts of the numerous atrocities of bigotry, hate, intolerance and just plain evil that are committed on a regular basis by the any number of religious institutions, whether it be Fred Phelps latest hateful protest, the pope's latest anti-homosexual, anti-abortion, anti-free thought rant, the horrific treatment of gay men in Iran and other Islamic countries by the upright religious people there, and so on. When one of these atrocities is posted - as they are on almost a daily basis - it is completely rational and QUITE appropriate for those people in the maligned group, whichever it may be, to respond with anger toward a belief system that at best encourages and a worst demands this barbarism.

Enter the self-righteous religious DUer, who is not so concerned about whatever atrocity has just been committed as he is in making sure that NO ONE is attacking his faith just because members of his faith have been, say, gluing the anuses of gay men shut and then forcing them to drink diuretics, or, perhaps, claiming that gay people represent a worse threat to the United States than terrorism. To the religious DUer, it is the faith under "attack" that deserves the defense, not the people who are victims of the outrageous religious atrocity. And they ALL say the same thing: "Those people aren't TRUE Christians/Catholics/Muslims/Mormons."

NEWSFLASH: if you contribute money to the Catholic church, you are supporting intolerance and hate, not mention pedophilia and misogyny. If you support your Christian church of choice monetarily, there's a good chance your money is going to fund efforts like Prop 8 and other anti-same sex-marriage agendas across the country, not to mention abstinence programs like the ones killing thousands of Africans every year and anti-abortion groups that breed doctor-killers. The mormon connection to Prop 8 has been well-established. The barbarism of the Islamic clerics is a matter of record.

There ARE no "TRUE" christians/catholics/muslims/mormons, just as there are no "FALSE" christians/catholics/muslims/mormons. There are only religious people and their victims.

The correct response to a thread attacking a particular religion for its latest outrage isn't to defend the religion. It's to express SHAME at being in any way associated with that religion, followed by a pledge to do everything you can to make sure those responsible for the outrage are punished.

You don't get to be outraged at people outraged at your religion's outrages. If you do, you deserve every bit of venom directed at you.

If I still smoked I'd have a cigarette after reading it. :smoke:

14. No, that's not the truth. That's just twisting Christ's image to suit a bias.
If you really want to upset a Republican, use Christ's Words to show them their hypocrisy.
Easier to just hate Christ and Christians though, it doesn't require any thought, research or truth.
Whatever path you choose, defines you. If you twist another's words, Christs or anybodies, you're no better than them.

17. these are all fantastic
I especially love the first one! Thanks for the link--it's wonderful!

And Kurmudgeon, although I agree with you about the way Christians (or people of any faith) are often painted with a broad brush on DU, the entire reason these pictures are so powerful (as well as funny) is that most people--whether they're believers or not--know what Jesus would really say about feeding the poor, and that he would never say to anybody that God is sick of them; anybody who didn't know what Jesus represents, except to members of the far right, wouldn't find these amusing. I also agree with your post #14; the problem is that in politics, "or" really is a better word to use in the caption to #3 than "and," even though in real life being moral and being born-again are not mutually exclusive.
