Minnesota archdiocese partners with NOM to plan anti-gay marriage committees
A Minnesota archdiocese is keeping strange company these days it in its bid to plan anti-gay marriage committees in every parish in the state. Archbishop John Nienstedt sent a letter to every priest in the state at the start of October urging them to put every Catholic church in Minnesota to work passing a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. There would be "captains' of every ad hoc committee in every church in the state, part of a strategy that was used to defeat the legalization of same sex marraige in California. Moreover, the committees would ultimately report to the Minnesota Family Council which in turn reports to the National Organization of Marriage.

1. "Is this REALLY something that jesus would approve of?"
They think so, and that's the whole problem with religion: no one can prove them wrong.

5. Well, that sucks big time. I'll be joining in the fight against that amendment.
The church should butt the hell out.

6. The current archbishop has gays on the brain
Last year he mailed out an anti-gay DVD to every Catholic household in his diocese. I know someone who attends the Basilica of St. Mary, the big Catholic church in downtown Minneapolis. They knew the DVDs were coming, and hundreds of members--many of them themselves GLBT-- marked them "refused" and sent them back.

7. It's that "OTHER WAY OF KNOWING" that
Gay is of the devil !!!

:sarcasm:

But seriously, why do gay groups not sue these religious zealots and take their property away?

I'm disgusted with the "CHRISTIAN" church of pederasty throwing their money at restrictions on rights of consenting adults.

They believe so. If you don't, you're persecuting them.

9. Wot the hell? Are they going to randomly call gay fiancees and lobby them to not get married?

10. Nothing would surprise me
The Prop8 crew tried twice to forcibly divorce the 18,000 married couples here in CA. There's no depths the anti-gays won't sink to.

11. Makes me all the more thankful I am free of this organization now
Being in Minnesota having any connection to the Catholic Church now would be too much to handle. But I left it long ago, when it was blatantly obvious they weren't doing God's work. Far from it.
