Republican Rick Womick: U.S. should purge all Muslims from serving in military
Robert Tilford, Charlotte City Buzz Examiner
November 12, 2011

Tennessee Republican State legislator Rick Womick says devout Muslims should be removed from military.

"Personally, I don't trust one Muslim in our military." "If they truly are a devout Muslim and follow the Quran and the Sunnah, then I feel threatened because they're commanded to kill me." When asked whether Muslims should be removed from the military, Womick answered, "Absolutely, yeah", he said.
FANG: What about the thousands of Muslims that are still in the military that are veterans, that are translators, that are active personnel. Is there some sort of policy solution that you’re advocating?

WOMICK: Personally, I don’t trust one Muslim in our military because they’re commanded to lie to us through the term called Taqiyya. And if they truly are a devout Muslim, and follow the Quran and the Sunnah, then I feel threatened because they’re commanded to kill me.

2. I wonder, would this be a violation of the "no religious test" clause?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Religious_Test_Clause

Wikipedia says:
This has been interpreted to mean that no federal employee, whether elected or appointed, career or political, can be required to adhere to or accept any religion or belief.

Does that include soldiers? I don't really know.

3. According to his logic, Christians (and Jews, perhaps) are as dangerous as Muslims
Since the Bible god is just as wrathy and bloodthirsty. Just a small sampling...

Deuteronomy 17:12
12 Anyone who shows contempt for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering there to the LORD your God is to be put to death.

Leviticus 20:13
13 “‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Leviticus 20:27
27 “‘A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.’”

Deuteronomy 22:20-21
20 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found, 21 she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done an outrageous thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from among you.

Deuteronomy 13:7-9
7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield to them or listen to them. Show them no pity. Do not spare them or shield them. 9 You must certainly put them to death. Your hand must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people.

5. Update: Womick responds to Muslim complaints
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A national Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization today called on the Tennessee General Assembly to formally rebuke state Rep. Rick Womick for calling for removal of all Muslims from the military, a news release states.

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said the Republican lawmaker from the Rockvale community in Rutherford County made those “un-American” remarks at an “anti-Sharia” conference Friday.

-----

Womick said Saturday he has no opinion of what CAIR had so say.

“They are a radical Islamic group,” said Womick, who fought in as a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot in the first Gulf War to force Iraq’s military out of Kuwait in 1990-91. “Whatever they have to say, I choose to ignore.”

9. What is interesting here
is there is virtually nothing a Republican can say that would make him unqualified to the average GOP voter.

10. I've always wondered why a Muslim
(or anyone who isn't a straight, white, conservative christian male) would WANT to serve in this military. Why fight for a country who's citizens have contempt for you? Let the type of person who would vote for bigots like Rick Womick spend the best years of their lives as a piece of government property.
