There are some parts of this country that are little theocracies, where coming out as an Atheist will cause you to be ostracized and harassed by authorities

No matter how offensive and abusive religious people are, we're still expected to remain silent. Religious privilege trumps all. If we dare to speak up, no matter how politely, we're chastised because we offended the "religious beliefs" of our abusers.
