Santorum: God's Law And Civil Law Must Be The Same
One of the people who screeches about the evils of Shariah Law advocates Biblical Law. Oh, the irony. Via Right Wing Watch:

<snip>
Santorum's response was that America has lost the recognition that this nation was founded on the principle that our rights come from God and that, as such, we are also required to abide by God's laws ... which, he explained, was totally unlike Sharia:

Video

<snip>
Our civil laws have to ... and that's why, with the issue of abortion, as long as abortion is "legal" - at least according to the Supreme Court, "legal" in this country - we will never have rest because that law does not comport with God's law which says that all life has value, all life is created by I knew you in the womb.

And as long as there is a discordance between the two, there will be agitation.

So, to clarify: In Islam, God's laws and the civil laws are one-and-the-same and that is theocracy and that is bad ... whereas here in the United States, our civil laws merely must be in accordance with God's law, and that is not theocracy and that is good.

And until that happens, Santorum says, this country will never have rest.

:crazy: and uber-scary.

or that there aren't plenty of others who believe as he does.

15. 3% of the voters want him for president
There are many more who help push his oppressive "Biblical" laws on the nation.

18. That just goes to show you
that your implication that "Santorum polls at only 3% so there's nothing to worry about" doesn't mean much. Poll numbers don't necessarily correlate with influence or potential threat.

24. "Biblical Law" isn't a weakly supported religious threat
It's a reality across the nation. Ask any LGBT person or woman who has little or no access to reproductive health care, for starters. Just because they haven't been able to thrust the entire Bible into our legal system doesn't mean they haven't made great strides in wrangling parts of it in.

3. That is the most evil and destructive thing anyone ever says.
We should be at war (yes, war!) with anyone who says it.

Otherwise, we'll have our own version of what the middle east experiences.

No who says such a thing should be walking around, free. (1st Amendment not withstanding)

I'll take them seriously. They preach "moral values" and demand all sorts of oppressive laws while they're the worst "sinners" around.

10. Theocracy IS uber scary to me too.
To each their own when it comes to religion or a lack thereof, but I sure as hell don't want the right wing's version of religion to be law. No religion should be law, really. I think we have rules about that, don't we? Sometimes, I wonder why no one is following those rules any more. Separation of church and state is still a good idea, if we could get politicians to remember that part...and that is a BIG IF.

12. "Separation of church and state is still a good idea"
It's an excellent idea. I don't understand why some people don't grasp how essential it is. If their religion can be infused into the government then anybody's can, with the same oppressive results.

22. Double standard Rick.
That site is sick. At least from my perspective. Santorum on this, and Santorum on that. What about Santorum on toast? Yuck!

I would honestly love a country that followed the ten commandments. Hell, even two of them. But these clowns have double standards to fit every one of their agendas.

Neurotic.

25. I would HATE a country that followed the ten commandments.
The first 5 are utter bullshit. And the last 5 are so open to interpretation that they are relatively meaningless in that context.

I'll stick with a nice solid set of secular statutes, please.

30. it doesn't matter what newt says. his rolodex has some monetary value to certain
interest groups for lobbying purposes

and he really misses be on the big stage under the bright lights with all eyes glued to him. so he'll try setting his hair on fire and running back and forth screaming for attention. and the low-information voters on the other side of the aisle will be briefly captivated and say Who is that man?

but he's not coming back as a major political figure
