Poll question: Which person is more religiously crazy?
I got into a debate with someone else about this on AIM.

Person A: An older Catholic, not a very regular Mass attendee or believer in all church doctrine, but generally socially conservative and opposed to gay marriage. Votes for Democrats for most offices because of tradition, a working class background and economic issues.

Person B: A young urbanite, defines themselves as a progressive Christian, but also believes in "spiritual gifts" and charismatic things like healing through prayer and laying of hands and prophecy believing that God speaks to them and sends them visions and and usually at church is doing things like raising hands, shaking and swaying, sometimes blurting out things when being "moved by the Holy Spirit". Solidly liberal on all issues and strongly supportive of gay marriage.

Person B by the way is not some pure hypothetical, I know plenty of people just like that.

1. It's obvious.
If you vote Democratic you're not crazy.

I could ask, "Who is the craziest atheist, the shy introverted one, or the storming activist?"

3. Does this mean that the only non-crazy atheists are those that

shut up and those that don't say things that offend believers?

Free speech and taking action based upon one's belief is just find when done by believers even if they wish to trample and restrict the rights of other people, but NOT okay if that speech results in a believer like yourself feeling offended?

6. That entire statement was an example of how the same question could

be framed if directed at atheists, instead of Christians. PERIOD. IOW,the poster is equating craziness to religious belief. Can you notice any bit of bias in the post?

8. I am not an atheist. I am a Christian.
In fact not only am I a Christian I go to an evangelical, charismatic church that promotes things like what was described despite being relatively progressive. Hence I know many people like Person B. I was discussing this with another guy (an agnostic) on AIM defending that such progressive people are less "crazy" than casual believers who hold such conservative views which he clearly disagreed with. In a nutshell, chill out a bit.

4. I'm not an atheist
In fact not only am I not an atheist but I go to a charismatic evangelical church (but also somewhat progressive.) Hence why I know so many people like Person B.

5. What does "religiously crazy" mean?
Does your definition of "religiously crazy" tell us why one or both of these people are covered?

11. First off, I wouldn't use the word crazy, indulging in fantasy is more accurate....
as far as who indulges in it more, well, Person B, obviously, but then again Person A could be just as religious, just quieter about it, so it should be both are equally indulging in fantasy.

12. Like the fantasy that humankind is knowledgeable enough to even ponder the question of afterlife?
You're mortal, whatever you choose, it'll have to be by faith.
If you just say there's nothing, that's all you are doing.
You just refuse to admit the faith in the decision you have chosen.
