If you don't like me calling the tree in the statehouse a holiday tree, hush up and go feed the poor
Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chaffee: If you don't like me calling the tree in the statehouse a holiday tree, hush up and go feed the poor

Chaffee's action is in defiance of a symbolic resolution by his Legislature declaring that the tree in the Statehouse shall be called a Christmas tree, not a holiday tree. His legislators are going nuts and calling Chaffee "too" politically correct, while they are upset about Chaffee not being politically correct on the "right" side. The Catholic Church in Providence is also angry about Chaffee's decision to be inclusive:

The head of the Roman Catholic church in Providence also criticized Chafee's decision not to use the word Christmas.

Chafee's decision "is most disheartening and divisive," Bishop Thomas Tobin said in a statement. He said it ignores American traditions and is "an affront to the faith of many citizens."

"For the sake of peace and harmony in our state at this special time of the year, I respectfully encourage the Governor to reconsider his decision to use the word Christmas in the state observance," said Tobin, who was on retreat and was unavailable for additional comment.

1. I have to ask why the CAtholic Church is protesting in favor
of a Pagan symbol

If anything a Christmas tree would be an olive tree, or a palm tree, or maybe a fig tree, but not a fir tree that belonged to the Pagans.

2. I'd swear that last line says "or else" at the end...
it's just really hard to see, but not hard to hear.

4. Good for him
Selfish wingnuts need to get over themselves and stop demanding it be all about them. Getting out and helping others would be just the thing for that.
