Devotees Nailed To Cross In Phillipines
This article is not meant as an anti-christian bash but it is so gross I had to post it! I think I puked a little in my mouth this morning after reading it and thinking about it...

1. Weird
How can anybody think of that as an honor?

I grew up Catholic and we would never do anything like that in a million years.

There is a line between devoted and weird. These people drove across it in a tank.

2. As long as there is faith
there will be extremes, I guess. Very disturbing. Not what Christ had in mind, in my opinion.

3. Mel Gibson made them do it
The glamorization of torture and death is rampant in our culture.

5. But Mel finds it SOOOOOO inspiring!
Spiritual! Sensual!

And of course, when I saw scenes from his movie I flashed on Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia, being lashed ever so homo-erotically by his "tormentors."

6. lol -- homoerotic indeed!
straight people have THE most exotic fantasies about what gay folk do -- they dress us in nazi uniforms -- roman centurian outfits -- nipple clamps and monocles abound!

roman bath houses with masters and slaves -- egad but we 'mos are a busy, busy heathen lot.

7. Projection --- It's their speciality.
I've always maintained that the right is far more preoccupied with homosexual sex than any homosexual. They are obviously thinking about it all the time.

And those Mel Gibson movies are ALL about pornographic violence, which is their substitute for the real thing. Panting, moaning, flesh torn, blood spurting . . . all kinds of penetration. Mel gets tortured in almost every movie he's ever made.

9. For some reason, when I read your post
I flashed on the scene from one of my favorite movies, "The Three Amigos" and Steve Martin saying, 'wait a minute . . . these bullets are REAL!'

14. I was thinking about this today.
I don't even like to hold hands at the Our Father, it's just not my style. I come from a culture that's generally very reserved in public. (I think it's because we feel things so deeply we have to stay in control most of the time.) But if other people want to do this because their culture points them that way, why not? As long as no one is permanently injured or forced into it. It is reminiscent of the Sun Dance ritual that some American Indians engaged in. It's an alternative form of mysticism.

15. Where is the line between acceptable religious devotion
and mental instability drawn?

Under any other circumstances an individual who pounded nails into his/her body (or allowed them to be pounded into him/her) repeatedly would be considered unbalanced and his/her sanity would be questioned. However since this falls under these individuals' "deeply held religious beliefs" thousands of people are falling all over themselves to watch it and honor them.

:wtf:

17. Thankfully British TV didn't sink to an all new low, as the presenter who
was going to have it done backed out at the last minute.

BRITISH broadcaster who travelled to the Philippines to be crucified on Good Friday for a television programme pulled out of the stunt in tears yesterday ? and blamed God for his decision.

Dominik Diamond broke down and wept after watching nine Filipinos take their turn to be whipped and nailed on crosses and realising that his turn was next. ?God wanted me only to pray at the foot of my cross,? he sobbed, sinking to his knees and praying as local people and tourists started to boo.

Five, the television channel, denied it was disappointed that Diamond, a radio and TV presenter and outspoken Daily Star columnist, had decided against being crucified. No date has been set for the broadcast of the programme. If shown, it may have to change its original working title, Crucify Me.
