12. Jan Crouch perhaps?
Edited on Sun Apr-16-06 11:08 AM by LiberalPartisan

They're real big on the 'Give to Get' doctrine.

Paul Crouch on giving and Receiving:
"I have spoken and written to you many times about the Word of God that came to me as I sought Him on this issue. My question was simple —"Dear Lord, can we bring a gift to you, with a need in our life, fully expecting you to meet that need?'

God answered me with a word into my spirit as clearly as I have ever heart it — He said: 'Son, Did I give my only son to die on the Cross, EXPECTING NOTHING IN RETURN?'

Ah, don't you see it. God had a need — He had lost His first son, Adam. He needed sons and daughters. So what did God do? He GAVE the very thing He needed — His only begotten Son, the best gift heaven could give! What did God receive? Yes, we know — billions of sons and daughters! God lives by His own law — you GIVE if you expect to RECEIVE!

** I added she and her husband Paul to the list and deservedly so!

3. I really object to Joel Osteen being on this list
Joel Osteen just preaches the word of God. And he just preaches common-sense values, IMO.

Somethings I think people just start shooting from their hip without knowing what they are talking about.

And although I love the D.U. family on here, it seems as though some DUers want to attack religion as a whole. Religion is not the problem; it's the way some people use religion.

5. Sorry - Joels' wealth got him on this list
He can talk the talk but he sure ain't walkin the walk. Besides, IMHO he's nothing more than a self help guru very cleverly marketed as a Christian - Christian Lite for that matter.

7. I just disagree with that, wholeheartedly
He preaches the unadulterated word of God.

And the love he has for the Lord just comes through when he preaches and teaches.

16. If he preaches that non-christians don't go to heaven,
it's not love that comes through.

20. I think the point he's trying to drive home
Is that if we want to have any chance of making it into Heaven, we have to confess the Lord with our tongue, and accept him as our Savior.

I believe that's what he means, and I would agree with him on that.

21. You can call it whatever you want.
But it's still intolerant fundamentalist dogma.

I don't care whose mouth it's coming out of.

8. Sorry, I Don't Agree
Especially when he stated to Barbara Walters on the View, that only Christians will gain admittance to Heaven, he sounds just like the others to me.

Some other items:

Critics have decried his lifestyle as "lavish" pointing to the fact that he lives in a house valued at over $2.5 million, in the same neighborhood as former President George H. W. Bush.

Supporters also point to the church's charity work, particularly during the aftermath of Tropical Storm Allison. According to Lakewood, the church donated over $1,000,000 to flood victims in one year alone, housing many of them temporarily at the sanctuary on the northeast side of Houston.

Lakewood refused to house evacuees in its new facility, formerly the Compaq Center. Some believe this is due to the financial state of most of the evacuees, ie. they were not considered valuable future-financial contributors to the congregation.

So you see Joel isn't much different, he just has a lot of people fooled.

10. Twain said it best
"Heaven for the climate, hell for the conversation."

I'd gladly forgo the climate if it's filled with smug Calvinists. No amount of pleasant weather can possibly balance the stifling presence of that sort.

Got it saved!

My standard reply to the "Don't you want to go to Heaven?" question is:

"But I wouldn't know anyone."

17. I don't think anyone living lavishly should be
preaching the worked of God. I'd would rather listen to a "street corner preacher" than to listen to a TV (so called ) evangelist.

13. Sorry - Osteen lost any cred he may have had for me when
he,his wife and family were kicked off the Continental Airlines flight (in First Class of course) to Vail,CO.

...and then I came across an article today showing him giving an "autograph" - what? - our pastor would laugh in your face!

15. I think you're grasping at straws simply because Osteen is a Pastor
What is wrong with him autographing someone's copy of his book? He wrote a book (Your Best Life Now) and just happened to autograph a copy for someone. Big deal!

And there were no indications that his wife Victoria acted improperly on that flight.

26. "it's the way some people use religion"
and how some religion encourages ignorance. And how religion can so easily control people, like making them defend someone who flaunts wealth as preaching "unadulterated" gospel.

He's not a preacher exactly but he's always spouting

smarmy fashion that criminal hypocrites do.

Incredible. I doubt anyone else here has been to one of his crusades, but they are amazing. I know that pat thing to do would be to compare it to a nuremberg rally, but that's not entirely accurate. It's more like watching Tetzel sell indulgences. So many people there, looking to get healed. And it was quite a show. All white and gold, huge choirs, all these utterly convinced people wandering through the stadium (my dad took me to one at the Kiel Center). It's amazing. He also utters prophecies. I don't remember what he said when I saw him, probably some vague "revival" message.

The man's a pure pharisee.
