I really believe there is a conspiracy to ridicule and destroy the Roman Catholic Church from within...

I say from within because the idiocy comes from representatives of the church.

Although I am an atheist I found the sermon at a mass I attended recently to be very rational. The priest spoke out against the death penalty, against war and against oppression/poverty. No talk of Satan, astrology and such.

Much of the absurdity seems to smell of Moon and Robertson IMO.

1. i had a lot of hope for the direction of the RC before

i love the liturgy of the RC church -- it's history -- and iwas so hopeful it would embrace very different attitudes than it has.

but it seems gripped in a fear of modernity.

it's sad.

i have no love what so ever for jerry, pat and crew -- and give no quarter in that sphere.

2. The Catholic League prez--Bill Donohue--is a right-wing nut...

and his rhetoric is no different than the protestant right-wingers. I can't imagine many priests agreeing with him.

3. no -- many priests i'm sure don't.

i've met sooo many wonderful priests and nuns in my life -- i wasn't even aware of right wing conservatives in the church really.

i mean was of buckley -- but i thought characters like him were an extreme minority.

well -- that just goes to show me....

most priests and nuns tend to be liberal socially. I had come across a few Knights of Columbus misogynist hypocrites but they were a minority.
