and asks if God knows that. Thus the responders would have to agree to the statement that religion is necessary for God to be known, if they participate in the poll.

totally UNnecessary and only gets in the way of a truly religious experience.
In fact, religion has occasionally been defined as a defense against a religious experience.

before organized religion, humans held spiritual beliefs and asked the same questions they do today--What is our purpose, What happens after death, etc...
