How will God love you today?
I went to a Lenten event this weekend
at my church...maybe some of you did also
or are getting ready to walk the road with Jesus
the next 40 days.

I took a workshop from a woman named Norvene
Vest...she's written quite a few books about
Benedictine spirituality. While many things
were covered, I connected with a spiritual
exercise a friend of hers does...

ask yourself in the morning: "How will God
love me today"
and then at the end of the day ask "How did
God love me today?"

It just makes one more conscious of good things
but also things to learn from during a day.

Are you getting ready for Lent?

1. You know..i really love that...
Last week I was into a big ole worry fest about some squabble with my new neighbors about how they just moved in and planned to tear down a common wall between our houses..trying to talk them out of it..them telling me that i had to take down my vines growing on the wall, etc....and one of our friends a Mexican catholic came over and listened to me go on with my worry talk...and he told me tranqilla..be calm..find your own peace...and remember this, he says, Jesus carried that heavy cross..and he carried it to his death..that is the cross that god gave to jesus...today, he says..god gave you a cross to carry that is so small, so tiny..it is like a toothpick cross (ha)..and all you do is worry and complain. He said that god must love me very much to have given me just this tiny toothpick cross. Gracias dias, he said...that is what you should be saying...and of course, he was right. Gracias Dias!

4. I love that visual of the tiny cross
What I really needed to hear was that God loves me
and tries to connect with me every day even when
I am not connecting with her.

2. Getting ready? - planning my day - where to get my ashes!
I need the calm meditation of morning and evening prayer,

It kept me going the 80's when I worked for some amoral rabid right wingers one of whom had Thursday night dinners with Reagan at the WhiteHouse. I had to clear my mind of the sexual betrayals of their spouses that I was invited to join in on - and of the betrayal of the poor and disabled that was the core of Reagan.

Since leaving that job I no longer do the 4 to 5 times a week church meditation. But without that at that time I would not have made it

The prayer at home seems adequate - but I like the ask yourself in the morning: "How will God love me today" and then at the end of the day ask "How did God love me today?" - in effect when I thank the Lord each day, that thought is going through my mind.

5. thanks for sharing that
in this world of rapidfire assaults on us
by bullhorn tv and radio voices,
we all need the quiet space to listen to
our hearts.
