Grimsley Meets Clemens Prosecutors
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/12/sports/baseball/12clemens.html

The former major league pitcher Jason Grimsley met Tuesday in Washington with federal prosecutors investigating Roger Clemens for perjury.

It is not clear how Grimsley can help the government’s case against Clemens.

In 2006, federal agents raided Grimsley’s home in Arizona after he received a shipment of human growth hormone. Grimsley then cooperated with the authorities, telling them the names of players who used performance-enhancing drugs.

Also Tuesday, Kelly Blair, a gym owner and trainer from Texas, testified before the grand jury investigating Clemens. Blair told ESPN.com that he testified that he had never supplied performance-enhancing drugs to Clemens or other professional athletes.

In 2006, The Los Angeles Times reported that Clemens and Andy Pettitte were among the players Grimsley named . However, when court documents were unsealed a year and a half later, neither Clemens nor Pettitte were mentioned.

Grimsley was a client of Kirk Radomski, the convicted steroids dealer who named dozens of players he said he had sold banned substances to in the Mitchell report. Radomski also sold banned substances to Brian McNamee, a former trainer for Clemens and Pettitte.

An official for the United States attorney’s office for the District of Columbia declined comment on the matter. A lawyer for Grimsley did not respond to a telephone message seeking comment.

Clemens was first linked to performance-enhancing drugs in the Mitchell report, which was released in December 2007. He has been under investigation for more than a year, accused of making false statements under oath when he and McNamee testified before Congress in January 2008 and gave contradicting testimony about whether Clemens had ever used steroids or human growth hormone.

..snip

The Roid cases rage on.
