NYDN Lupica: Woods Should Blame Himself for Media Coverage
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/more_sports/2009/12/03/2009-12-03_lupica_woods.html

...

It was in the middle paragraphs that Woods lost you Wednesday. It was in there that he gave everybody a brief lecture about "tabloid scrutiny." And about privacy.

Privacy? Really? Here's how Tiger Woods ended up having his privacy invaded, and the privacy of his family: By acting like a constantly horny, single rock star. For a long time. Apparently with a lot of women. If that was the object of the game, why get married in the first place? He says his family deserves a certain kind of behavior, but how could he possibly know?

...

He didn't break any laws. But give me a break on his concerns about privacy, or taking the high road on that. If he was worried about privacy, how come he was so public about chasing other women around, or having them chase him?

End of the second paragraph Wednesday:

"Elin (Mrs. Woods) has always done more to support our family and show more grace than anyone could possibly expect."

She probably has. And that grace probably didn't just kick in over Thanksgiving. And didn't kick in while her husband was having big fun in Vegas. Or Melbourne. Sending text messages asking girlfriends to go into the bathroom and send him a picture. If that grace was there with his wife, it was always there. Even when he wasn't. Now he's worried about protecting her.

...

But if Tiger Woods' definition of privacy means being allowed to screw around as much as he wants and with whom he wants and then act like a victim when he has to apologize, then he really does need some alone time.

1. If public figures
don't want the attention when things go bad, why do they want it when things go good. Ya can't calibrate the attention if you are a public figure. Just like sarah palin using her kids like props to show her "family values." But lo and behold don't drag the kids into the story when the values hit the fan.

2. I don't think it's quite that clear, but when you market yourself as the next Jackie Robinson...

and something more than just an athlete, you damnsite better walk the walk, as Jackie did.

Woody, Eleanor and Jackie:

And I'll note that Woods, at one point, dissed Rachel Robinson and by proxy, Jackie, along with Prez Clinton. I'm told he later apologized.

16. Did Not Actually diss
As far as I remember Tiger Woods did not diss Rachel Robinson. I think you are referring to the event in which Jackie Robinson was honored by MLB. For that event Tiger Woods was invited near the last minute and turned down the invitation. He claimed that he has already made plans with friends to go somewhere. To a degree Tiger felt upset that he was only invited to the event after he won the Master's Championship. I believe he claimed he did not understand why they did not want him to come to the event until after he won the Master's Championship.

3. Tiger Woods is a billionaire because of being in the public eye...
...if you make that amount of money essentially because you are in the public eye, you can't complain about the bad stuff that goes with it...and you shouldn't be surprised when it happens.

7. You could also talk about the responsibility that comes with the territory...
...they all say they don't want to be role models, but all sports heroes are to kids...they look up to these people.

9. I think they dig them because there are so many bad-ass athletes...
they look up to them first because they're athletes, and they want to be like them--bad ass or not--simply because they're athletes, if you get my drift.

4. Jesper Parnevik threw Woods under the bus
and then ran over him again. He introduced Tiger to Elin and now regrets it. Had some other choice words also.

10. I Heard He Was At It Again, Too
I heard on the radio that he trashed Tiger to a Sweedish newspaper. So, he's not done venting yet.

14. Parnevik Feigning Anger
I think Jasper Parnevik is feigning anger. I do not believe Parnevik is that shocked that Tiger cheated on his wife. Parnevik is a professional athlete and knows other professional athletes. It is well know that many professional athletes sleep with multiple women before and after they are married. I do not believe Parnevik was so naive that he actually thought there was no chance Tiger would cheat on his wife. At the most he could have thought there was a chance Tiger would not cheat on his wife, but that it would not be surprising if he did cheat on her. It seems that Parnevik is running Tiger over with the bus in order to protect himself from criticism in that he introduced Tiger to his wife.

12. Mike Lupica is an ignorant, selfish piece of shit.
Tiger Woods has earned a fantastic living from playing golf, not from putting his marital life, such as it is, on public display.

What part of "it's none of our damn business" don't idiots like Lupica understand?

15. He Deserves His Privacy
I think Lupica is missing the point of Tiger's statement. I did not take Tiger's statement to mean that he is blaming the media for his problems; he is just asking the media to allow him to deal with his problems in private. It is not like Tiger is acting like some celebrity that poses for pictures with photographers one moment and then complains that the photographers want to follow him home and take more pictures. From the very beginning Tiger Woods has asked for privacy from the media. Tiger is just staying on the same course, in terms of the media, that he has always been on.
