Fantastic. The next day was right back there for the Skins beating the Igs. What a weekend.

I was at the 88 game (3 Dec 88,) my last week at Naval Station Philly. Drove home the following Monday and on to the next duty station. Ya can't beat the pageantry of Army-Navy. How can ya??

Dad was Class of '51. I've never been to THE GAME. Gotta go to one. It's the only time Dad ever did the 'rah rah' thing for USNA. Other than this one day, he wasn't much of a ring knocker. Got a fleet appointment when a sailor.

8. From a friend at the Pentagon:

Earlier this week, Navy had access to decorate the Pentagon entrance by the Metro in preparation for the Army-Navy game. They released a bunch of balloons saying "Go Navy, Beat Army." Today was Army's turn.I walked in to find a giant "Beat Navy" sign by the entrance and then I saw a sign on a trash can saying "Navy Good Idea Box." The bands and cheerleaders from both academies should be coming to the building today.

ps. My friend is rooting for Navy!

The USS Lionfish, a WWII Submarine is located at Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA. They are awesome displays to visit.

14. I've been there.

I used to live on Cape Cod and it was only a half an hour or so away, depending on traffic. I thought it was amazing. Tough way to make a living, that's for sure.

15. The closest to us

is the USS Drum in Mobile, Alabama next to the Battleship USS Alabama. I can't get enough of Submarine lore. I've been planning a trip to Little Rock for a long time to visit the USS Razorback which is located near the Clinton Library.

13. Navy

My cousin's husband was serving on a Destroyer stationed in Pearl Harbor on 12-7-41. Two years later the ship was torpedoed off Papua New Guinea by a Japanese submarine and sunk in six minutes. He survived several hours in the water despite exploding depth charges, sharks, and nearly being run over by another Destroyer searching for the sub.

18. Pearl Harbor -- a great story

On the morning of December 7th, 1941, just before the first wave of Japanese planes made their assault on Pearl Harbor, someone on my cousin's ship accidently sounded the Call to General Quarters instead of Quarters for Muster (the control was identical to the control for the general alarm, and they were mounted side by side on the bulkhead). The sailors assumed this was a mistake, but being well-trained sailors ran to their battle stations while grumbling "who's the SOB that sounded General Quarters?"

10 minutes later the first wave of Japanese bombers made their assault. My cousin's ship was among the first, if not the first, to fire shots at the Japanese. And the first to get under steam and into open water.

All because of a mistake.
