Third Annual Academic Bowl Championship Series Rankings.
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 09:42 AM by Condem
http://energy.newamerica.net/blogposts/2009/third_annual_academic_bowl_championship_series_rankings-25250 LOL!! Look at the dumbasses from the PAC-10. What an embarrassment. The SEC, as usual, at the bottom. But that's to be expected.

1. 5 Pac 1O schools in the top 25 isn't bad at all
Edited on Wed Dec-23-09 09:52 AM by JonLP24
Especially Stanford at #2. Remember there are 12O division I schools in College Football so to have 5 Pac 1O schools in the top 25 I don't feel makes them dumb-asses.

Edit/My zero button no longer works.

2. Jon. It's the Top 25 in the BCS.
If it were all the schools you'd have Stanford. That's it. As a conference the PAC-10 has to be one of the worst. Along with the SEC, of course.

10. Isn't #3, #8 and #16 a bit redundant?
Aren't they one in the same?

14. #8 is combining all the schools
such as UC Irvine and San Diego and putting them together. It may be but I didn't include U-Cal system.

15. That's a much more representative list
everyone knows Berkeley and Stanford are two of the top schools in the nation.

The PAC-10...America's Premier Academic Conference.

3. Kind of misleading...since it only judges the actual players, and not the school..
...otherwise Penn State would not be over Stanford.

Also, how did Florida NOT get #25?????

8. ORRRRR....
Like Florida State, their grades are all phony, so the schools that supposedly have athletes doing well really don't...I'd be more inclined to believe that than believe Bama is as high as it is.

Maybe Bama's academic standards for their players is a little, shall we say, leniant?

37. On the other hand
Mark Ingram, Bama's Heisman winner, has a 4.0 and is scheduled to graduate early. Their 4th year red shirt junior quarterback was invited to apply for a Rhodes Scholarship.

It's entirely possible to be smart, play football, and be in the South.

28. Something is wrong with these stats if Penn State is #1.
One thing that is always overlooked in these things is how many athletes would never even go to college at all without being good in sports. It has been like Equal Opportunity.

13. You sure are reaching condem
must be tough having to turn to something like this to finally get a Big Ten school in the top spot...lord knows it isn't going to be happening in the BCS anytime soon again, if ever.

Hey, look at the Hawkeyes, they're in their customary position of an also ran.

18. Just shows the discrepancy between the type of football player...
..recruited by the Big Ten and PAC-10, Upton. Sure your players are talented but by these scores I'd say that their dumb as fucking stumps. And that's an insult to a stump to even compare these idiots to one. Iowa at #5. An also-ran? Who's reaching?

19. Ahem..
Stanford performed the best on the APR measure with a mark of 984 out of 1000, a score that is 43 points higher than the average for other high-level football teams. That is not surprising, as it was the only school in the top 25 to receive public recognition from the NCAA for its academic success.

The players at Stanford are definitely not 'dumb as fucking stumps'..I don't believe the Big Ten has a school that can compete with the "Harvard of the West" academically.

As for Iowa, you're right, referring to them as an also ran is a bit harsh. ....Instead, I'll put them in a position much more in keeping with this past year: O-v-e-r-r-a-t-e-d

21. I'm surprised that Miami did better than the other ACC schools
Georgia Tech is highly regarded academically, thought they would have better student athletes.

I'm also surprised Cincinnati did so well, but being from Cleveland I'm likely biased.

30. Maryland
It was cheaper as I was living in the state and the difference between MD and OSU academically and other wise are minimal.
Besides much as I love my Dad who lives in Cinci (and at that time literally up a hill from University of Cincinnati) living so close to him would have made me crazy I think..:)

25. TMQ had an interesting suggestion in his column this week.
Add one multiplier factor in the BCS formula: the graduation percentage.

All schools give lip service to being "committed to academics". Fine, let's see how committed you are.

31. The graduation rate of atheletics should be compared to the rest
of the University. That will tell the tale more accurately...For instance if I said Maryland had a 50% rate that would sound bad..But thats what I was told was the ACADEMIC graduation rate when I started there...

32. lol..
You link doesn't work. Which is not surprising considering the opinion it expresses is incorrect. The Big Ten hasn't had a winning bowl season since 2002/2003:thumbsdown:......The Pac-10?>>LAST YEAR:thumbsup:..... Upton knows of what he speaks.

It's been two games ...against two very inconsistent Pac-10 teams. However, even if the Pac-10 ends up having a poor bowl season, it's only one year. That stands in sharp contrast to the Big Ten's PATTERN of losing bowl games through most of this decade.

Last night you had the 6th place Pac-10 team play the MWC 3rd place team. What does that prove? Cal has had only had a couple good wins all year. Their QB Riley has actually regressed since the beginning of the year. The Bears lost to Oregon by 39, USC by 27 and last night they were coming off a 32 point whipping by UW. Utah, like BYU the night before, was coming in with a team wide little man's complex...what happened didn't surprise me in the least.
