ha! Clinton Portis is criticizing Jason Campbell's professionalism?
I don't really care that much about the Skins, but Jason Campbell, while not one of the top QBs in the league, did more with nothing than people could have possibly expected this season. So what does he get for landing on his back all season because of his shitty O-line? Portis questioning his leadership:

In his regularly scheduled appearance on ESPN 980's "The John Thompson Show," Portis criticized teammates who this week expressed frustration with the "star treatment" he is perceived to receive from owner Daniel Snyder and then seemed to critique Campbell's leadership abilities.

"No disrespect to Jason," Portis said while speaking with co-hosts Thompson and Doc Walker. "But everybody in that locker room can tell you, you'll never see Jason mad, you'll never see Jason's tempo change, you'll never see Jason get mad. He going to get up, dust himself off; he going to give you everything he got. But as a leader, you never heard -- it was always, 'Jason couldn't take control of the huddle,' or he didn't do this or he didn't do that. That wasn't Jason's character." Washington Post

Campbell defended himself against Portis, thank god, but so did his teammates. Continuing from the Post:

"Not one time have I come out and made any excuses about anything with my situation," Campbell said. "I never do anything to try to hurt my teammates. Some people need to stop being 'me' guys and start being 'we' guys. And another thing, and I want you to write this, too, how does he even know what's going on with our team?"

"How's he question anything when for those four or five weeks before he was on IR , he never even came around. He wasn't with us. He was never at practice. Who does he think was holding the offense together? He should go ask the coaches and the players if he wants to know. But he wasn't around to do that. He doesn't know anything about leadership."

I hope Campbell lands somewhere he's appreciated. And I hope Portis is traded to another lame ass team like the Skins where he can play out the last remaining half season he has on his legs.

1. Cambell sucks..
He has absolutely no fury during game time. Look at the greats like Marino, Montana, etc... they controlled the huddle with an Iron fist.

But hey---It's the dreadskins so what do we expect.

2. I donno. I don't think he's been well-coached
and it seems like he has the respect of his teammates. It's probably tough, too, to have fire when you're spending so much of your rime on your back because of the O-line. I don't think he's a top ten QB or anything, but I do think he's better than his team was.

4. This is the last year of Campbell's contract. Not sure what will happen
as a restricted free agent, and if the uncapped year next year will affect anything. Never know what Snyder will do. Draft Tebow probably!!

5. Campbell's response spoken like a true Auburn man
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 03:46 PM by RT Atlanta
Campbell obviously has enough talent for Joe Gibbs to have drafted him in the first round in early 2005 (JC was at the helm for Auburn's 13-0 SEC Championship run in 2004). I dont know how many coordinators JC has played for while at the "skins," but at Auburn JC had 4 OCs in each of his 4 years. I suspect JC has had to play for more than one OC while in DC too.

Give the man some consistency, and some teammates who give a shit, and let's see what he can do. The kid has the talent, is calm and collected and should be a good QB. Remember, football is TEAM sport, not an individual sport. With this in mind, and speaking up for my AU brother, Portis can go fuck himself.

6. He has had 3 OCs at Washington,
so if he stays for the new staff in 2010 he would have had to learn 8 different offenses in 10 years of playing college and pro football. That is tough!

8. He needs an "O" line. Not everybody can develop Jurgensen's quick release to protect themselves.
I'm the shit at over 70 years old!

7. What a laugh. We'll not know what Mr. Campbell can do until he has time to do it. nt

10. I really hope he succeeds, even though I love the Eagles
He showed a lot of toughness this year. I saw maybe 4 or 5 Skins games and, even though his decision making didn't always seem to be the best, he looks like somebody who wants it and is willing to work for it. I think that given the right coach he can be more than adequate.

11. We in DC love Donnie McNabb more than Philly does. AND his mother.

12. Campbell was more professional than the Redskins warranted
The guy had to deal with the entire off-season leading up to week 1 knowing that Snyder was actively shopping for a new QB up till the last minute.

Then, when he gets to keep his position because every prospect told Snyder "thanks but no thanks" he ends up being protected by a line that came into the season injured and which proceeded to change starting line-ups no less than 6 times during the season

If I were Campbell I'd be more than glad to jump ship to a team that may actually want me vs. continuing to play for a team that couldn't find anyone to replace me.
