UF broadcaster busted for child porn

GAINESVILLE, FL -- Longtime University of Florida sports broadcaster Steve Babik (BAB-ick) is facing federal charges of having child pornography on his home computer.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Tuesday that the 50-year-old Babik is charged with one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

His attorney, Larry Turner, says Babik appeared in court Tuesday, pleaded not guilty and was released with restrictions. Turner says it was too early in his investigation to comment on the charges.

The University Athletic Association said Tuesday that Babik has been fired.

1. I saw that...wasn't going to post it...thought about it, though...

seems like very preliminary action, and since it's one count, you gotta wonder what the deal is....did he click on the wrong website...a while back in the GLBT Forum some troll had put a link to child porn, stating it was something else...alarms went up and it got deleted quickly, but a few people unwittingly did click on it.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Florida, Babik "knowingly received, distributed and possessed materials depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct" on several occasions from Nov. 2 to Nov. 30.
