Nancy Kerrigan's brother pleads not guilty to assault charge (father has fatal heart attack)

Nancy Kerrigan's brother pleaded not guilty today to assaulting his father, who died shortly after the alleged incident took place early Sunday morning.

Mark Kerrigan's lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his behalf in Woburn District Court on a charge he assaulted a person over 60 that resulted in injury.

According to a police report, Kerrigan was arrested at his parents' home in Massachusetts after getting into an argument with his father, Daniel Kerrigan, who was found unconscious on the floor when police arrived. Daniel, 70, was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

" and his father had a violent argument and struggle at the home, and Daniel Kerrigan either fell or collapsed on the kitchen floor," Elizabeth Healy, an assistant district attorney for Middlesex County, told the Associated Press.

1. I hate to admit it but these things happen in familes.
I know it happened in mine but no heart attack took place.

4. I don't think you meant that as a snark, but it's important to understand
that even in families where the members care about one another, situations can spiral out of control and have horrendous and unintended consequences.

What a tragedy for this family.

3. There by the grace of god.....
I know exactly what went on. Personal experience. Lucky I didn't kill my father. Lucky he didn't kill me.

5. It happened in my family, as well.
The emotions in my family always ran pretty high, whether it was love and laughter or anger. Guess my brother and I are lucky that neither of my parents died in the middle of something horrendous.

How sad for the Kerrigans.
