Barbados Invites Triple Crowner Bill Turner to Sandy Lane GC
William H. (“Billy”) Turner, the only living trainer of a Triple Crown Winner ― the great Seattle Slew (1977) ― will be among those with a coveted box seat view at the Sandy Lane Gold Cup, Barbados signature horseracing event, on Saturday, March 6.

A legend in the world of racing, Turner will be joined by a set of international horse trainers and owners on a three-day visit to the Caribbean island, where the popularity of equestrian sport is growing by leaps and bounds.

1. Bill Turner Honored in Barbados, if not in the Hall of Fame
Bill Turner, the only living thoroughbred trainer to win the Triple Crown, is in Barbados this weekend, being honored by the island's racing establishment at a Triple Crown Forum on Friday and then at the 29th running of Barbados's biggest race, the Sandy Lane Gold Cup, on Saturday. Details of the trip are here.

But, while the Barbados Turf Club recognizes Turner's stature in the game, the same recognition hasn't come from the US racing establishment, in the persons of the Racing Hall of Fame's nominating committee. That committee is now engaged in its annual ritual of selecting nominees for the Hall, and it's high time they gave Bill a shot.

2. Is there a backstory about Turner...
a reason perhaps on why he's not in the HOF?

Did he piss the powers to be???

Otherwise, it's crazy that he's not in.

3. I think he has just been overlooked....
he isn't the kinda guy that draws attention to himself, like a Baffert or Frankel, he just trains horses. Billy Turner has had and is still having an extraordinary career. Just quietly.
