Free agent quarterback Charlie Whitehurst told San Diego Chargers management Wednesday that he will sign a one-year restricted free-agent tender offer, which will allow the Chargers to begin trade talks on his behalf, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton.
It also puts former Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson on the verge of signing a deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
Whitehurst has indicated he prefers to go to Seattle, rather than Arizona, according to a source. Whitehurst is a restricted free agent with third-round compensation. Because the Seahawks don't have a third-round choice, the Chargers and the Seahawks would have to work out a trade.
Whitehurst's decision came at the same time the Cardinals and Anderson moved closer to a contract. Sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Anderson and the Cardinals are working on language to finalize a deal. Anderson would compete with current Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart for the starting job.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5003121This makes me happy because this keeps AZ far away from Whitehurst who may be very good at the Pro level but he hasn't thrown a pass in the regular season while DA did have one good year.
