March Madness Linked To Rise In Vasectomies
Wednesday, March 17, 2010

March Madness is here, and men across the country will spend this weekend lounging on the couch watching wall-to-wall basketball. Doctors said for some men, the next several days will be all about basketball, brackets, and bags of frozen peas.

"That's the whole beauty of you being able to be off for the weekend," said Dr. Stephen Jones, a urologist at the Cleveland Clinic. It seems some men have decided, if you're going to get it done anyway, this is the perfect time for a vasectomy.

It's a phenomenon that urologists like Jones have been noticing for several years now.

"Every time that we got to March Madness -- it's at least 50 percent more men than we'd had on the other weeks," said Jones.

1. Don't knock the frozen peas until you've tried them
They're the right size and consistency to make a good ice pack.

No sense in being a martyr. They help and speed recovery time.

Of course the problem with doing a vasectomy in March is that it deprives you of some of the best weekends to do 50 mile bike rides, if you're into that sort of thing.

3. There's a clinic in Toledo that's been actively promoting this.
"Lower your seed for the tournament...."
