Vin Scully sent to hospital after minor tumble
March 19, 2010 / ESPNLosAngeles.com

Vin Scully, the Dodgers' broadcasting legend and a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, was hospitalized overnight Thursday after he got up from bed too quickly, fell and bumped his head.

Josh Rawitch, the Dodgers' vice president for communications, spoke with Scully late Thursday. Rawitch said in an e-mail to reporters that Scully told him he had simply gotten out of bed too quickly, resulting in his fall.

Scully, 82, was taken to West Hills Hospital and Medical Center as a precaution.

"I am spending the night and plan on doing the game Sunday," Scully said in a statement.

1. I'm sure he leaps out of bed every morning
eager to see the world's greatest team in action. Can't blame him. Get well soon, Vin!

2. There is no one like Vin Scully. 60 years with the Dodgers. Amazing.
Nearly as amazing is Tommy Lasorda's 59 years with the Dodgers.

I know them both and they are exactly the same in person as they are on the job.

One of my favorite baseball moments was being at Wrigley Field to see the Dodgers and Cubs. Lasorda sang Take Me Out To The Ballgame. When he got to the critical part? You guessed it: ROOT ROOT FOR THE DODGERS. Pandemonium followed.

3. Funny how we develop relationships with these announcers

I grew up with Herb Score in Cleveland. Adopted Bill King and Lon Simmons in the Bay Area. I was crushed when King passed away a few years ago.

4. I remember crying when Vin Scully announced Don Drysdale's death in 1993.
I guess it just comes with being a true fan of one particular team.
