Woof Woof!
Even though Washington beat New Mexico by 18 points I'd still rather watch MWC basketball than Pac-10 basketball even though BYU is the only one left and they needed 2 overtimes to beat lower seeded Florida.

1. Yeah..the PAC-10 really sucks..
Good shot there Jon..:toast:

UW is playing as well as any team in the nation. I believe that's 9 wins in a row away from home.

The Huskies are a very dangerous team...something the rest of the country is finally waking up to..

BTW, the PAC-10's strong showing proves that the conference was underrated, meaning ASU should have gotten in..

2. Eh..
ASU showed they didn't belong by blowing 10+ lead with 5 minutes left and losing by a last second 3-pointer made by Jacksonville in the first round of the NIT.

At least Arizona State is #1 in the nation in college baseball. :woohoo:

5. Calm down, Upton.
Washington beat the most overrated three seed in the history of the NCAA tourney. New Mexico. What a laugh. It doesn't take much to beat Steve 'the coaching genius' Alford. Let's see how Cal does against Duke, today. Then we'll draw some conclusions.

6. You said we were going to
"draw some conclusions" if UW beat #3 seed New Mexico....and you admitted last night that UW and Cal looked good. Now we're moving the bar?

8. I've had a little more time to sort things out, Upton.
With Iowa Wrestling and UNI, I was on an emotional high. After further contemplation, I think you are making too big a deal out of the UW win.
So, we have "drawn some conclusions". Steve 'it wasn't my coaching- the players just didn't show up' Alford is THE worst tourney coach out there today. This was no upset. I'll say it again. New Mexico was THE worst #3 seed in the history of March Madness.

13. There was a poll..
on the Sharks post game show last night...asking if the Sharks' playoff seeding mattered. 52% said no, which is about how I feel. Unfortunately, the Sharks' players seem to be skating with the same idea....Ever since the Olympics, they've played as if they're just biding time until the playoffs.

14. I watched some of that game. No effort at all.
Maybe they don't want to be the #1 seed and draw Detroit, and I wouldn't blame them. Detroit as an 8 seed is scary stuff.

I knew the Sharks were struggling, but they were as listless as it gets in the game I watched. They can't back into the playoffs and hope to just flip a switch and turn it back on. It's the one thing about this team that mystifies me sometimes. Probably the best team in hockey, but I've seen 4 games this year where they just didn't seem to care. If they get their heads together they'll be damn tough to beat. If they don't it could be a repeat of last year.

4. Pac10 basketball IS dreadful
You did watch the PAC10 tournament right? Arizona,Arizona state, Ucla all blew chunks. One game does not a season make. Virginia Tech who didn't even make the tourney is better than either team. Seriously i'll take the Atlantic10 over PAC10 as well.

You've got to broaden your interests TZ...as in paying attention to what goes on west of the Mississippi..

11. They're 3-1 in the tournament so far, just like the West Coast Conference
That doesn't change how the season as a whole shook out. Plenty of second-tier conferences have one or two teams that can compete on the big stage.

12. One thing I've noticed..
and I guess it's an improvement. The so called "expert commentators" have now changed their tune somewhat.. The PAC-10 is no longer weak, it's just "top heavy"... I see you're following their lead..

I'd be careful listening to those east coast biased commentators though..they've ruined many a bracket. Including even President Obama's..who had UW and Cal going out in the first round.

16. if it's not top heavy, then what would you call it?
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 03:28 PM by fishwax
It's certainly not balanced. There is a huge drop off after Cal, Washington, and ASU, and even ASU's biggest fan on this board doesn't think they belonged in the tournament. The Pac 10 has had great years in the past and likely will again. But this year, they were not a strong conference.

I've barely had the chance to watch any games or commentary since Friday, so I'm not following anyone's lead, just making the obvious observation. And I ruined my bracket all on my own :)

9. I couldn't watch any more of the tournament after the loss to Stanford
which is a team they swept in the regular season. Arizona was .500 team and UCLA was below .500 team so it's no surprise they blew chunks. Losing to Stanford was bad though.

Atlantic 10? Xavier is the only left. How is Richmond and Temple doing? Lost to lower seeds so they blew chunks right?
