I really liked Ty and wanted him to succeed, to some extent even more so because it would be very significant for a minority coach to succeed at the most famous (FB) school in the country, but he just wasn't a good coach. He had no experience as a coordinator, which hurt him in that he was too dependent on his staff and would not have been able to take over the play calling himself, like Spurrier/Stoops/Carroll could. I do think Weis is a good hire, although a lot will depend on a good staff. They've already got Cutcliffe from Ole Miss as OC, which is a pretty good start and should help a lot for recruiting. As an ND fan, I've also been impressed by what Weis has done with the Patriots. They didn't really have any stars on offense, but he has managed to turn Brady into a top QB and done a lot with the rest of the talent as well. It's also nice to have someone who has succeeded at the highest level, and also helps to have an alum.
