May 25th, 1935...
75 years ago today, Babe Ruth, playing for the Boston Braves, hit his 714th and final home run of his career.

3. Amazing player

Ruth: .342 average and 2213 RBIs in 2503 games. Factor in his pitching stats as well.

The great Hank Aaron: .305 average and 2297 RBIs in 3298 games

The great Willie Mays: .302 average and 1903 RBIs in 2992 games (on edit: Mays lost nearly two very productive years serving in the Army -- you could easily add 200 or so RBIs and at least 30-50 HRs to his 660 total)

------------

Speaking of steroids:

Bonds: .298 average and 1996 RBIs in 2986 games.

4. And speaking of steroids...
Take the last four to five years off of Bonds career.

5. Then we ought to take some numbers off Ruth's career too..
After all, he played in a watered down talent pool...

9. This is for you and your "Babe"
and his diluted all white talent pool:

10. Completely false comparison, Upton. Bonds made a choice to enhance his
own performance, while Ruth did not (actually he was drinking which probably took away a hundred or so home runs).

You are comparing apples and oranges. All of the players in Ruth's era had the same competition, not just an advantage to Ruth which is what your roid rager did.

6. I don't agree. All you need is this:

*

Bonds was a great player but he will always carry a stigma

7. That's exactly what I am saying, Auggie. His last four to five years
were chemically enhanced in a way that Ruth or Aaron never did. You can't take the numbers away, but definitely Bonds deserves an asterisk.
