Brett Favre is back in Minnesota


(AP)—Brett Favre’s(notes) latest summer of indecision finally appears to be over.

Favre arrived in Minnesota on Tuesday and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him in a Vikings helmet and red quarterback’s jersey when the team takes the field for practice on Wednesday.



“Helicopters acting like they are following O.J.,” tight end Visanthe Shiancoe(notes) tweeted. “Where is the bronco.”

The big difference? His signing with the Vikings—Green Bay’s bitter NFC North rival—was a stunner to most observers who watched Favre torment Minnesota for so long as a member of the Packers.

This time around, virtually everyone expected the quarterback who spends every summer on the verge of retirement to return for a 20th NFL season.


The Vikings instead issued a media schedule for Wednesday, announcing that coach Brad Childress will hold his regular news conference following practice. The team also said that a “media availability with QB Brett Favre is to be determined.”

Now it’s time to see if the old man can do it all again.

I think they'd have to agree with me when I say this. The quarterback, sorry can't remember his name, was right on and done a great job. The Vikings with Adrian Peterson and Garrett Mills are going to be the super bowl winners this year, mark my words. Both these guys I've named are great guys and awesome football players.

Sure it came at a bad time, but that play was dead and they were not going to get a field goal. If he had not thrown, he would have been hit (again) for an enormous loss. If he had thrown, well...you know. If he had run (like everyone seems to think he should have), the linebacker mentioned in "if he had not thrown" above would have killed him in about 4 yards, which gets him nowhere near the field goal.

Childress' play calling was what was critical.

watch the you tube---he clearly could have gained 5-10 yards running to the sideline.

If he had done that the ball would have been on the 30-35 which would have made it a doable field goal.

From the picture you posted, 10 yards puts him in the lap of that linebacker. Are you telling me that guy is just going to wait for Brett to get to him. Now, sure, you said 5-10 yards, but that's still the rock talking. Favre is hurt with a bad ankle. You cannot possibly be telling me that he and the linebacker (who, by the way, at the time of the throw is stationary, square to Favre, and watching only Favre) are going to go at equal speed? Not to mention the lineman that is about 3 steps away from Favre. No F'in way. Favre gets MAYBE 3 yards. And probably gets broken in two by a Defense that has clearly made it their mission to light him up on every possible chance (not that I fault them for that as I have said elsewhere other than the one hit than hurt his ankle). That makes it a 51-yard field goal which is hardly even close to automatic.

And are you letting Childress off for calling a ridiculously stupid series? Because it was. Why the fuck was he passing at all? Purple Jesus should have been out there running to get them in field goal range. That loss falls firmly in the lap of Childress. You will not and cannot convince me otherwise.

Look at the you tube and the picture... he certainly would have got the 5 yards needed for the 51 yard field goal and I contend with the linebackers peeling back on the play he could have hit the sideline and got the 10. He had the angle to the sideline.....But I'll go with 5 as a minimum---which would have made it a 51 yard field goal.

Now with Longwell ranked 10th in Field goals and kicking indoors, the 51 yarder was very doable.

It was a horrible throw---across his body and over the middle.

The point is--- Favre has a history of throwing INT's at the most inopportune times and this was just another one of those times.

If you think the linebacker would get him, that means they run the same speed to the same spot and that wouldn't happen with Favre's ankle. Plus the linebacker, contrary to what you say, is NOT peeling back. He was stationary pre-throw and was watching ONLY Favre. If Favre had started to run, the linebacker was on him. And if you are talking about Favre going to the sideline, then you are still completely ignoring the lineman that is about 3 steps away from Favre.

Favre has a long history with Longwell. If you think that Longwell has that leg and is Mr. Automatic from that distance, why wouldn't Favre just throw it out of bounds? He was outside the tackles?

So---the slow linemen who was in a tangle would have caught Favre who clearly had a head start to the sideline---come on!

The closest linebacker was 10 yards away. ---and that linebacker was squared up with Brett who already had the momentum heading to the sideline--- plus--- that linebacker would have encountered the receiver crossing the field.

The corner back was turning upfield to go with the receiver and there's no way he would have stopped Favre before the 35. Plus---that receiver would have taken him out.

The You Tube shows his lane even better.

Now as far as Longwell making it or not--- well we'll never know will we??... Why--- because of Favre's horrible INT.

Are you telling me that having one hand on his arm is "in a tangle"? And he doesn't have to have a 4.2 40 to catch Favre who just injured his ankle the play before. Favre doesn't make it to the 40 with that guy on his tail. And there are two receivers out deep to block and a corner, a safety, and a linebacker to go to Favre. Which of those Vikings is going to block both of those guys? No way he gets five yards.

Not to mention we are analyzing a still frame and Favre has a fraction of a second to make the decision. He gets to the 40 and they have a, what, 55 yard field go to make from there? Please.

Which could impact his ability to run effectively which I believe did. I thought for sure he was out of the game after that hit.

On edit-I wish the Saints played on the 40-yard line was circled. He would of easily caught up to Brett.

There is no "enemy." The Packers did not want him. He found someone that did. And almost took them to a Superbowl and very well may have another shot at it this year.

Wikipedia shows Favre with 36 records and Marino with 17. Take two off the 36 for the two interception records and it is 34 to 17. Yeah, the Marino era is going to be a bigger deal than the Favre era. Plus, NO RINGS.
