America's Most Beloved, Righteous, All-Knowing Team must sweep the series, not win, sweep the series for them to still have hope. They will not. The Heavens will weep. Baseball, for all practical purposes, will be over. Very sad indeed.

1. Brad Hawpe, who was released by the Rockies, is going to Tampa Bay.

But he probably won't start this weekend. The Rays really wanted Manny, but the White Sox got his waiver.

just to block the Rays. Like Damon, Manny would have rejected a return to Boston, but it would have effectively blocked the Rays from getting him.

10. I think once it was rumored about the White Sox putting in a claim,

which happened almost as soon as the rumor about him going on waivers came out, it was a moot point. I didn't even hear that LA was thinking about waivers until after I heard that the WS were looking to get him. If the White Sox rumor hadn't come out right away, it would have been all over WEEI. Heads would have been exploding in New England.
