Nike unveils Pro Combat uniform designs
<snip>

"Buckeyes in red helmets? Hokies dressed in black? Retro Beavers? If some of the nation’s top teams look a little flashier this season, it’s no coincidence.

Nike unveiled its new Pro Combat uniform series Wednesday in New York City. Ten teams will be wearing their new duds in at least one game this season.

Those teams include: Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Boise State, Miami, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, TCU, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. And yes, Ohio State will break out red helmets for the first time since the 1960s, the Hokies will be clad in black for the first time in over a century and the Beavers will be rocking throwback uniforms based on their 1967 design.

Each uniform includes some aspect of that school’s tradition. For instance, the Alabama uniform has a houndstooth check pattern incorporated into the uniform in tribute to legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.

"They're more than uniforms, they're expressions of pride," said Nike executive Kris Aman."

1. I couldn't see most of them, for some reason
but I did manage a couple of screenshots of Bama's new uni. They added a flag, and they claim to have added houndstooth, but I didn't see any.

I don't like it, either way. Bama has had the same uniforms for 400 years, why mess with them now?

Stupid Nike.

2. Other than the flag on the shoulder, what's the difference between the
new Alabama uniforms and the old ones? I didn't notice any houndstooth in any of the pics I saw.

3. I saw none
I'm going to ask my sister tomorrow. She and her husband are alums, they have season tickets, live and breathe this stuff. If there's a difference, she'll know.

6. I checked again, and apparently the houndstooth pattern is present
only in the numbers and the helmet stripe, and probably not visible on television. Don't know about HD.

8. thanks for the link
I don't see any reason for this change, to be honest, other than Nike's trying to sell some new gear.

4. Nike should be vaporized
Orange Bowl gone, full reigns to Nike. Canes make lovely decisions.

No one under 50 should be allowed to design a logo or uniform. Otherwise it's guaranteed to be too bright, too gaudy, too complicated or all of the above.
