BOSTON -- The Red Sox and White Sox won't play any baseball at Fenway Park on Friday night. Instead, they will play a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.
The decision to postpone Friday's game was made roughly four hours before the first pitch due to the forecast for heavy rain and strong winds associated with Hurricane Earl.
Fans with tickets for Friday's game must used them for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, which starts at 1:05 p.m. ET. Game 2 will be at its originally scheduled time -- 7:10 p.m.
In a press release, the Red Sox wrote: "The decision to postpone tonight's game was made in consultation with Major League Baseball and in consideration of the Governor's state of emergency declaration. The Red Sox and Major League Baseball feel it is better to err on the side of public safety even if the current weather forecast dramatically changes its course."
