With their regular-season opener with the Buffalo Bills just five days away, the Miami Dolphins are apparently undergoing a significant organizational transformation with GM Jeff Ireland taking the reins from executive vice president of football operations Bill Parcells.
This from a team release: "Effective immediately, Jeff Ireland will assume full control over all aspects and decisions in regard to the Miami Dolphin football team and support staff."
However the Dolphins also noted "this was the intent of the structure put in place in the past," and that Parcells "will remain with the club on a daily consultant basis."

Parcells, who just turned 69, took over Miami's front office late in its disastrous 1-15 2007 season. He quickly fired coach Cam Cameron and hired Ireland and head coach Tony Sparano, who'd both worked with him in Dallas. Those moves, along with the acquisition of QB Chad Pennington, whom Parcells initially drafted while with the New York Jets, paved the way for a historic turnaround as the Dolphins won the AFC East in 2008 with an 11-5 record.
