HORSE RACING NEWS & RESULTS weekend of June 4
From The Bloodhorse:

Dettori Seeks English Derby Win On Dubawi

More than ever, Frankie Dettori needs to win his first English Derby (Ire-I) in 13 attempts on Saturday at Epsom Downs.

Ruled out of the June 13-18 Royal Ascot meet by a six-day riding ban, the champion jockey is going through a rough spell and hopes a ride on the Godolphin-trained Dubawi will bring him his first success in the biggest race of the British flat racing season.

Dettori has had two second-place finishes, but his best in seven years riding for Sheik Mohammed's Dubai-based stable was a third on Tobougg four years ago.

Winner of the Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) at the Curragh, Dubawi is rated third favorite at 9-2 for Saturday's race, behind Motivator (9-4) and Gypsy King (4-1).

3. Ken Ramsey is really starting to piss me off.
In the article he complains that his horses were quarantined in FL
this winter. He claims it crippled his operation. It was his horses
that started the whole strangles thing in the first place. He had
a couple of horses that were at a training center in KY that had it
and he shipped them to Palm Meadows training center in Boynton Beach, FL. Then strangles spread from there. WHat a jerk.

He calls all the shots with his horses so he has no one to blame
but himself if he has run into difficulties shipping his horses
around the country. He made it extremely difficult for many trainers
on the Triple Crown trail by having their horses quarantined and unable to work or ship.

2. Belmont news .... no Scrappy T
No rematch between Scrappy and Alex ... http://tcm.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=28431

Maiden pointed to the Belmont ... http://tcm.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=28422

It's looking like a particularly weak Belmont field so far; certainly not the drama we saw last year. I'm liking a tri of Alex, Giacomo, Pinpoint right now.

11. Racingpost.co.uk only assigned a 116 rating to Shamardal...
and a 131 to Motivator. 116 seems pretty low for a Group 1 Classic winner.

7. Dance With Ravens wins Plate Trial
Edited on Sun Jun-05-05 04:44 PM by u4ic
at Woodbine, but is DQ'ed - Three In The Bag promoted to the win spot.

No link yet - the race was televised here.

edit: DwR was DQ'ed to 6th. (To those unfamiliar, he is out of Dance Smartly, who won the Canadian Triple Crown, and the Breeder's Cup Distaff. She's already produced 2 Queen's Plate winners in Scatter the Gold and DancethrutheDawn).

9. I remember when Dance Smartly raced...
...she was a hell of a racehorse. Has turned out to be quite a broodmare as well, apparently.

10. I thought they were going to give him
some time off now. After he got beat last time it said that
they were going to give him a break.

12. Afleet Alex
I saw Afleet Alex out on the track yesterday and today. He looks
good but certainly looks like he has been campained.

Like most good horses, he is very confident and well behaved on the
track.
