Whoa, Jets almost tripped over the kitty cats.
Beat Detroit in OT by a FG.

1. The Lions are just dumb.,.
they have the ball 3rd and 4, 2:00 left, Jets have no TOs left, so what do the Lions do? They try a pass with a backup QB who had just come in the game only a few minutes earlier. Of course it falls incomplete, stopping the clock...just DUMB.

2. That's what the Lions do.
It's not a question of dumb or smart. It's just what the Lions do.

3. I agree, that was dumb.
However you don't change years of losing without challenging your team to win. IF they complete the pass for a first down, the game is over and the Lions beat one of the AFC's top teams. If they run up the middle, they still leave a fair amount of time on the clock and give the ball back. I can't fault Schwartz too much. Under him, the Lions are really about to turn the corner. They are loaded with talent and finally seem to have a coach who can use it.

4. Wasn't there some unfortunate bad luck
with their kicker and ended up with Suh trying the extra point on their second TD.

5. Yes
The Jets mauled the kicker as he was kicking the extra point. They got a roughing the kicker penalty, but the damage was done. The Lions had no-one else except Suh to kick the point after. So the Lions would have been ahead 21-17 when the Jets kicked the field goal. They never would have won the game and/or gone into OT.

Oh yeah and the Lions never touched the ball in OT. Just love the OT rules in the NFL.

6. The Jets were actually the first team this year to win the game on the opening possession
It was the 10th overtime game of the year. I know this because my Cardinals went into overtime yesterday--plus they got the ball first and punted it 3 downs later. Also last week, Kansas City defeated Buffalo in overtime on a last second field goal. Let me say that again, in overtime on a last second field goal. I'm sure both teams were tired as they both lost this week, Kansas City lost this week in the 11th overtime game played and got the ball first and failed to score on the opening drive and Oakland ended up winning.

7. Can someone who has endured the Lions for their whole life chime in?

OK, so we buy this $72M QB whom I shall rename Matthew Glassford. What we spent on him could have gone towards a backup kicker, some reinforcements in the defensive secondary, etc., etc. You could have John Elway, Joe Willie, Tom Brady, or Jeebus H. as your QB, but that means nothing if you have coaching and personnel flaws that continue to plague your team.

Yes, this team has lots of good talent, but they are undisciplined. The Penalty Lions continue to throw away close games because of stupid mistakes like Pettigrew’s obvious blunder on the sidelines. I'm sorry, but that falls on the coaching staff.

OK, I need to admit something: I am a Drew Stanton (Lions backup QB) slappy. That said, I must say that every game he has played (except yesterday) in pre-season or regular season, he has done quality work. I have watched this kid from high school to now, and he has more heart than anyone I have ever seen. Yes, he doesn't have the best arm, but under the right circumstances he is one of the most mobile QB's in the league right now. And that 3rd and 4 pass was called for by the coaches; Schwarts even admitted it later.

Bottom line: Doo Doo starts at the top and rolls downhill. This once mighty team of the 50’s has never gone past the second round of playoffs since the Ford family acquired them not long after I was born. Forget the Bobby Layne Curse. This is the Ford Curse, a.k.a. Fix or Repair Daily.

OK, rant over.
