Sports digest: WAC adding Texas-San Antonio, Texas State, Denver in 2012

The Western Athletic Conference is expected to announce today the additions of Texas-San Antonio and Texas State, along with the University of Denver as a non-football member for the 2012-13 school year.

The WAC is losing three schools to the Mountain West Conference: Boise State next year, and Fresno State and Nevada in 2012.

The additions of Texas-San Antonio and Texas State will give the WAC eight football members in 2012. UTSA is starting a football program that will begin play in 2011 as an FCS school.

Montana, an FCS powerhouse, is also considering a move to Division I's top level and could join the WAC.

DU is still relatively small and is only famous for its hockey team.
