Dolts figure out how to cheat on the road
We already know they pipe in faux crowd noise into their home dome. Now, here's Tom Brady:

http://www.csnne.com/11/22/10/Brady-Colts-tried-to-illegally-simulate-/landing_patriots.html?blockID=358152&feedID=3352

Tom Brady was quite upset at the end of Sunday's 31-28 win over the Indianapolis Colts, but at the time it was unclear as to why he was so mad.

Turns out, Brady was mad at the fact that the Colts' defensive line was simulating the snap count in an attempt to get the Patriots' offensive line to jump early, causing a penalty, and essentially stopping the clock.

The Pats never jumped, and ran the clock out with a kneel, but Brady said on his weekly WEEI Radio appearance Monday that he was just trying to "create some awareness" for the referees at the time.

"Well the defensive line, they can't simulate a snap count, at the end of the game, you know, when you're kneeling on the ball," said Brady. "And really, the only thing that could have stopped us was an offensive penalty to stop the clock. So, you know, I'm in the middle of my snap count, and the defensive tackle is going, 'Hut, hut' to try to get us to jump offsides. To me, the only thing that the ref should be listening for is that."

And yet they're still at 6-4, tied with the Jags, for Pete's sake.

Seriously. When it comes to the Pats..I'll believe almost any rumor. They've shown a constant lack of ethics when it comes to the win at all cost mentality. The Colts, meh. Sorry, but they have a history. piping in crowd noise is mild compared to the Pats.

Edited on Tue Nov-23-10 08:50 PM by hughee99
The only people who could hear it would be the Patriots (which don't count), the Colts D, (who wouldn't admit to the violation, if it were true), or the refs, who would have to admit they heard it and didn't call it.

It may or may not be true, but I don't think there were any bystanders close enough to hear it in any case. Unless they're going to mic up the players, this is next to impossible to prove unless the crowd is silent.

Brian Billick complained about the Jets doing this a few years ago, this sort of thing isn't exactly new to the NFL.

I said that you're not going to find any, because the people who would know either don't count (the Pats), or won't admit to it (Colts players and refs).

I said you wouldn't be able to find any for this type of claim. Throughout this thread I have not said that Brady isn't whining, or that he was right to have complained about this. All I've said is that a lot of QB's whine about this sort of shit.

I've also AGREED with you that people shouldn't whine about unverifiable claims, and as an example of an unverifiable claim that people whine about, I brought up the Rams (which is definitely an unverifiable claim that people whine about).

I've been consistent, unless you want to say that people shouldn't whine about the Rams walkthrough to support YOUR statement that people shouldn't whine about unverifiable claims, YOU'RE the one with the double standard, not me.

9. Coming from Tom Brady
who whines and cries anytime anybody is near him, begging for a penalty, this sort of complaining is amusing. The Patriots have been caught as an organization cheating and had some incredibly dirty players like Brandon Merriweather and Rodney Harrison, who in addition to intentionally aiming to injure was caught with performance enhancing drugs.

As for the alleged piping in of crowd noise, that was found to be without merit. In spite of Tom Brady's claim that he could hear the noise, the issue was found to have been with the CBS broadcast. And I'm sure it's only a coincidence that the claim was made by the Patriots the same year that they were busted for illegally taping other teams in spite of notification from the league that said taping was illegal.

Yes I will certainly consider Tom Brady's complaints for the split second it deserves and then dismiss it as more of the obnoxious petulant entitlement that runs rampant through the Boston sports scene, both player and spectator alike.

"After the Steelers lost, 26-7, to the Colts here on Nov. 28, one Steelers official complained to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the Colts had amplified the fans' roar. The N.F.L. found no evidence to support that, although Commissioner Paul Tagliabue recently issued a memo saying teams could lose draft picks if they enhance stadium noise."

Isn't that the definition of an unverifiable claim?

I'm sure poor Tommy will somehow manage to console himself with his Superbowl Rings, millions of dollars and supermodel wife.

I'm not saying Brady isn't whining, I'm not even saying what he claims happened is true. I'm just saying this is far from unique to Brady...

I suggested that he got the idea to whine about Colts crowd noise from the Steelers, who whined about it more than a year before.
You first suggested that the Steelers didn't make any unverifiable claims, and yet this was an unverifiable claim.
You then suggested that "the Steelers" themselves didn't actually make this claim, because you can't trust the New York Times (and I agree that, in general, you can't trust the NYT).\
Perhaps you've accepted that my 2 Pittsburgh sources are credible, because you then moved on to suggested that the problem with Brady's whine is that he made it on the radio show, as if that's somehow different from whining to the refs on the field or to a beat reporter in the local paper.

How about we just jump to where you're going to end up anyway and save ourselves some time... You don't like Tom Brady. Sure, he does the same shit that most other NFL QB's do, but you don't like Brady, so when HE does it, he's an asshole, a whiner or a baby. I understand how you feel, I sometimes feel that way about other players. I know I shouldn't but I can't help it. I try not to argue that position on the DU, though, for fear of looking like a hypocrite.

On a side note, are you suggesting that the '05-'06 Steelers weren't whiny?

Everybody watching the game to the end saw Tom jabbering at the refs and was curious. He was asked, and answered. What the fuck does anything in the past have to do with it? Your last line sums things up well.

I like the Patriots hate here, and elsewhere. It's always a sign that the team is doing well. No one hates the Cubs or Pirates, for instance, because they perpetually suck. It's 90% jealousy, and maybe 10% actual caring about the cheating or Brady's whining. and I'm being generous on that 10%. :)

I guess when your teams give you nothing to root for, it's just easier to turn into a hater. The NFL, in it's infinite wisdom, decided to allow the continued existence of the New England Patriots. Deal with it. I still cannot see any rational basis for advocating anybody standing by when they observe blatant cheating on the field in front of them.

47. Patsies?? Dude, that is so 1990s!
A strong case could be made for the Pats as the team of the (past) decade, with three Super Bowls (and the epic fail in the fourth); only Pittsburgh had more than one.

I'm a huge Brady fan but I think he's off the mark here. Gamesmanship isn't cheating.
