Why was Chuck Ealey not drafted in the 1972 NFL draft?

Just race? Question 2 Did anybody here ever see him play?

1. True, that was well before Doug Williams broke the QB color barrier

but you would have thought somebody would have drafted a player of that caliber in the later rounds with an eye toward converting him to another position such as defensive back, as has happened with quite a few college QBs.

3. Won every game he started in High School and @ Toledo.

Good thing for the CFL, I guess.

I never saw Ealey play (before my time), but I do remember watching Moon on the Edmonton Eskimos as a kid.
