Vince Carter traded to NJ Nets

INDIANAPOLIS -- All-Star Vince Carter was traded by the Toronto Raptors to the New Jersey Nets for Alonzo Mourning, Eric Williams, Aaron Williams and a pair of first-round draft picks Friday.

3. I Love The Nets

My son and I have been to a few live games this season and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next. I'm no basketball expert, but I love the game. I love Jefferson and I'm glad Kidd is back. I can't lie. I'm going to miss Mourning. My son calls him "Old Dude" or "Grandpa". It's going to be really exciting with Carter. Go Nets!

They were a player away with Kenyon Martin. They are also rans now. They did well getting rid of Mourning's contract, though, and even better keeping him away from the Knicks.

5. Is Carter healthy? Both mind and body? Can he fit in? Kmart seemed

to be on such a learning/ability curve when they offed him, just coming into his own. Kind of a shame.

I haven't really seen Carter play too much in the last year.

Kind of feel like he has a lot to unlearn and that his game is quite similar to Jefferson's.

Nevertheless, if Jefferson, Carter and Kidd stay healthy, they can pose some difficult matchups for opponents.

6. So, now what journeyman can the Nets pick up for the front court?

There has to be some beefy banger around.

7. Karl Malone?

Actually, if Malone signs with the Spurs, we'll be letting Tony Massenburg go. He's a decent journeyman, and would do well in the East.

I'd look instead for Ratner to trade Kidd for a second tier point guard and big man. Maybe Dallas? Minnesota is loaded with talent, but could use a serious point guard.

The Nash deal has shown that one player can make a significant difference if he's with the right team. Kidd could put the Mavs back in the Elite column if he's reunited with his old team.

The Mavs could part with one of their multitude of point guards, and one of their big men. Say Calvin Booth and Marquis Daniels.

Actually, to make the trade work, the Mavs would likely have to give up someone like Michael Finley (the best player in the league nobody knows about).

Toronto got the short end, IMO. This was the best they could do? Alonzo?

had a guest article in the NY Times today. He wrote about Detroit and their superstar-less/all for one/play defense team concept. Thought it was good.

To be honest, I'm tired of all the talk about how Detroit is the first team to win like that.

I know Tim Duncan is a superstar (not in the media, of course, but he's just that good), but the rest of the team? All cast-offs and late-round picks (or Robinson, a great player on his very last campaign, and not nearly the player he used to be).

The Spurs' championship in '03 was great teamwork, too. Had to be, because one star can't get it done.

Detroit is falling apart this year. The rest of the league figured them out, and is gunning for them.

The whole "two superstars" thing came from Michael and Scottie, Hakeem and Clyde, then Kobe and Shaq. Except for those three teams, it's been a team effort with one anchor player (Detroit did have that in Ben Wallace).

Once again this year, though, we're going to be seeing the Western Conference Finals as the true NBA Finals, I'm afraid. Miami? Cleveland? Detroit? I can't see any of those teams standing up to the top teams in the West over a seven game series.
