Meanwhile, the Raiders fire Tom Cable
1-4-11 / sfgate.com

An 8-8 record, the Raiders' best record since 2002, was not good enough for owner Al Davis, as he informed coach Tom Cable Tuesday night that the team will not pick up the option in his contract.

Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson will take over as the new head coach, a source close to Jackson said.

Oakland had until Dec. 17 to decide whether to pick up a two-year option in Cable's contract. Cable, who started with the Raiders as an offensive line coach, finishes up 17-27 as head coach since taking over from Lane Kiffin on an interim basis in 2008.

"The Raiders express gratitude to Tom Cable for his contributions in his four seasons as an assistant and as head coach of the Silver and Black," the team said in a statement.

According to those close to the Raiders this is a preemptive move to keep Hue Jackson with the team but is certainly unfair to Tom Cable who labored with a substance-abused underachieving first-round QB for several years. I hope Cable will land a decent a job. Controversial, yes, but he worked his butt off for a difficult owner and earned a better fate.

1. Substance-abused?
That thing with the cough syrup didn't even make it through a grand jury.

Unless there is something else you're referring to.

4. Purple Drank
Russel's addiction to Purple Drank was the source of "constant whispers" by teammates, according to the link below.

"(According to Houston rapper Al Dsaying,) "When I was drinking 'drank,' I wasn't thinking about what it could be doing to my health. I'm 180 pounds, and when I was on drank, I was 240. It got so much sugar in it that it blows you up, and it makes you eat a lot, and then you got the soda."

Weight gain... lethargy... apathy... it adds up.

5. I'm just pointing the charges with the cough syrup
didn't make it to an indictment. Though Lord Infamous is skinny and he is part of Three 6 Mafia that created that song "Sippin' on some syrup(another slang term for the cough syrup)". Though DJ Paul is a little on the heavy side. Lil' Wayne mentions that he uses it frequently and he is very cut-muscular.

The source could be correct but it isn't proof of anything. Either way he was horribly inaccurate whatever the reason.

2. To bad he wasn't with the Bengals, they RE-SIGNED Marvin Lewis again
who has only topped 8-8 in 2 of his 8 years.

3. I thought Cable was the abuser, but he could move right across the bay.
