What was really going on at Iowa? Where is the coach?
Some parents are blaming the intensity of a workout conducted Jan. 20 in which a strength and conditioning staff member had players do 100 squats at half their weight capability before pushing sleds.

According to a parent, after a three-week layoff following the Insight Bowl, this was the first workout the players were asked to do.

According to a parent, a strength coach said in a meeting before the sessions that the Hawkeyes had failed to finish games too often last season and that "we'll find out who wants to be here."

There were workouts Thursday and Friday, followed by two days off, then a request Monday for more squats, which resulted in such soreness and cramping that it led to the hospitalizations.

1. Alright - I'll take the damned bait...
According to an unidentified source, chiefly me, coaches say trite, hackneyed shit.

According to an unidentified source, me again, soreness and cramping didn't lead to the hospitalizations, muscles breaking down at a rate that the kidneys couldn't keep up with did.

And, once again from me, the condition doesn't happen in clusters. It is an unheard of medical event for 13 people to have this occur.

The coach should have returned immediately. That I will grant. The rest is pure speculation. It's gossip and it's cheap.

2. This was not bait.
Even though I'd like to rub everything into Iowa, this isn't one of those times. Just like the A&M Bonfire Tragedy, I am shocked.

So if it wasn't the workouts (why in January?), what was the poison?

LOL. The last thing anybody should have a problem with is the workouts. And the coach speak? Tell me. What coach doesn't try to motivate? We lost 3 out of 4 games in November (and should of lost the fourth) in the 4th quarter. We got lucky against Mizzou in the Insight (Hyde's interception) or it would of been another collapse. The players were warned there would be a call to arms. Now then. What did those players (the thirteen) do that weekend? Ah. Rumors there. I have one problem with this whole fucking fiasco. Ferentz should have been home Monday night upon first word of the problem. I'm convinced someone at the University told him that everything was under control. Bad mistake. However. To question his integrity is another matter, all together. We're a very small town. I know Coach. Hell. I can tell you this. He's suffering over this monumental lack of judgment. The fucking witch hunt that has ensued was expected. But mostly without fact. So your Pat Forde's and Gregg Doyle's are basing their shit on a ton of hearsay. When the facts do come out, and for fucking sure they will, we'll see how everything sorts out.
