I love how Goodell is spinning the weather in Dallas.
Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 02:54 PM by trumad
Goodell praised the work done by the communities in making sure the Super Bowl festivities have continued despite the weather.

"I think the community has done an extraordinary job under some very difficult circumstances that are across this country," Goodell said. "There are very few communities in the country right now who have not been impacted by this storm. I think this community has pulled together and done an extraordinary job. My hat's off to them."

Today ---snow showers which really means sleet--- 26 degrees but it feels like 16.

Oh yeah--- sounds like a grand old time to me....

By the way--- it's 80 in Miami.

1. 7 people injured when ice fell off the Jerry Dome
DALLAS — Seven people were hurt, including one in critical condition, when ice fell off the side of Cowboys Stadium outside Dallas, officials said. The accident follows an overnight storm that left 5 inches of snow around the area just two days before Dallas hosts the Super Bowl.
The accident happened just after 1 p.m., the Dallas Morning News reported. Five of the injured, reportedly workers preparing for the game, were taken to area hospitals. Four of those taken to hospital were said to have suffered minor injuries.

4. Here's the thing...
This isn't about the game played in the elements---heck the roof is closed for this one.

It's people paying a boatload of money to go to the game and participate in all the pre-game activities.

If I paid that much money to attend the game I'd at least like to play some golf and do some outdoor activities.

Don't even talk about the trouble people are having flying in and out.

Like I said--- South Beach---80 degree weather--- Golf--- Beach---

or---landlocked Boring ass Dallas---26--feels like 16 with snow showers....

Hey--whatever floats your boat.

6. "I'd at least like to play some golf and do some outdoor activities. "
You live in Florida and you're worried about not being able to play golf somewhere? :P

In all seriousness, I'm truly struggling to find sympathy for fans who are bummed that they didn't get to play golf before seeing the fucking Super Bowl. It must really suck to only see the one event. "Yeah, I went to the Super Bowl, but I never got in a round of golf. What a ripoff that was."

And 80 degrees sounds like Hell. There, I said it. :)

8. You ever been to a Super Bowl?
I'm not being flippant... I have and the pre-game activities are fantastic and almost as fun as the game.

Remember---it's not just Steeler and Packer fans going to the game--- it's fans of the NFL who want to take in the whole experience.

How the fuck you going to do that holed up in your room?

9. No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
Just make the "whole experience" include snowman building, snow fort construction, and snowball fights. Problem solved.

it's fans of the NFL who want to take in the whole experience.

Ok, let's be honest here. More than half of those in attendance will not be "fans of the NFL", but fans of the spectacle, and people who care more about being able to say they've been to a Super Bowl than actually caring who even wins the damn thing, plus the usual assortment of celebrities and owners and politicians mugging for any camera they can. The only people whose opinion will make me pause will be those of the Steelers and Packers. I don't care if Joe Blow from Idaho doesn't have the "whole experience", I really don't.

You asked if I had seen a Super Bowl, and maybe if I had my opinion would be different, but it's because I haven't seen one that I have little sympathy for those who care about anything other than the game itself. I'd be thrilled to see one (hopefully in the snow), and wouldn't need golf or pre-game festivities to make my time complete. The game itself is all that matters to me, and I'm rather tired of what I see as total whining coming from those who think their golf game should be a factor in where the Super Bowl is played.

Dude, it is February. North Texas is a *COLD*, often *FROZEN* wet place in February.
Even Phoenix is having hard freezes this week.

I'm sorry the Super Bowl couldn't be in Miami this year, if that's your point.

26. No. The average temp in Dallas for today is 58 degrees. This is extremely
unusual temps for Dallas. Now in New York, the average temp for today is 38.

5. That was hilarious
He scrambled for an exact number of states that have been impacted by the storm -- 32 -- as if that has any relevance. Imagine a golf commissioner deflecting criticism of putting greens by emphasizing that 80% of courses across the country are experiencing similar problems. That's why you pick a track years in advance and weigh the variables. Somehow I don't remember Goodell excusing the rain in Miami several years ago by listing the other areas that experienced precipitation that day.

7. It's was just two years ago that he did that...
A little rain and he had a fit....

But he did it to help the owner go to the tax payers for money to put a roof on.

No snow but trees did freeze over and knocked over power lines. Trees with icicles.

13. I hope so
At one point they were 4th, hopeful they would land a 3 or higher seed, avoiding another 4-5 match-up. Though I imagined they would likely get a tough draw either way. Now they're 8th.

Let me say it was very cold for me lately. I usually don't wear a jacket in the afternoon but I went without on Tuesday and it wasn't bad the wind was like ice. Thursday and Wednesday was much colder, I had a jacket on and I was still freezing. What was interesting is there were no clouds. :)

14. The West is insane this year.
A three game winning streak and you're in the hunt for 1st, a three game losing streak and you're sucking basement water. I absolutely love it! Don't worry about seedings, just get in the playoffs. It's wide open this year. I like Vancouver to go the distance, but there's a bunch of teams that can do it.

I usually don't wear a jacket either. I love the cold. A few long sleeve shirts and I'm good for anything. And cloudless days in winter are always colder. The clouds trap some heat, so those cloudless days can be the coldest.

I'll have your forecast at the bottom of the hour.....

:)

18. Oh I was reading about a game the other day
that featured Vancouver, they beat the Coyotes 6-0. 23 saves. I don't know much about Vancouver, besides that they are first in the standings, but that is a very impressive score. They look like a team that is tough to defeat.

19. Vancouver was my 2nd pick behind Chicago last year.
Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 07:08 PM by Forkboy
I think they are very close to winning the Cup. My one question is are they tough enough physically? They have some awesome talent (the Sedin brothers are sick), but can they take the long playoff haul? Detroit looks like they mean business again this year, and Chicago is no slouch either. After that, Phoenix is one of many teams with the ability to surprise. Anyone coming out the West will be earning it big time this year.
