Sources: Celts get Thunder's Jeff Green (deal Kendirck Perkins)

Just before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, the Boston Celtics agreed to ship center Kendrick Perkins and guard Nate Robinson to the Oklahoma City Thunder for forward Jeff Green and big man Nenad Krstic, two league sources said.

Neither team was done, though.

The Celtics also traded rookie center Semih Erden and forward Luke Harangody to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a second-round draft pick.

While the Celtics were unloading big men, the Thunder acquired another one, sending Morris Peterson and D.J. White to Charlotte for center Nazr Mohammed, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

1. Hmmm.

Even here in Laker-land it's generally understood that, with Kendrick in the line-up, the Celtics probably win Game 7 last year.

Are they that in love with Shaq and Big Baby? Or are they just trying to stack the Thunder, hoping to beat the Lakers without even having to play them? (Heheheh.)

3. Green is a talented young forward

The article mentions he is probably part of a long-term rebuilding strategy. If feels a need for OKC which Boston feels good with Shaq, Garnett, "Big Baby".

6. Straight from the BB playbook.

At first look this makes no sense, much like trading Richard Seymour to Oakland. According to the Globe the Celtics are also getting the Clippers first round pick next year. That is going to be a lottery pick. The Celts also are getting Cleveland's second round pick, which should be the first of the second round, I think. They are looking to rebuild and stay in contention with Miami and the Knicks for years - the NBA is a young man's game, and the draft is the key. I suspect that they have been sandbagging with Shaq, and he is pretty rested and ready for the final run. Once Perkins came back and established his value, the opportunity was there.

7. I agree, Perkins isn't a great shooter or rebounder.

he has bad hands, and for a guy his size, he has a lot of shots blocked. He is a big body, though, and can bang around with anyone (when he's not hurt). While the Celtics will need that sort of inside presence in the playoffs this year, looking toward the future, most of their stars are very old (except Rondo). In a league where Miami, Chicago, Knicks and even Nets are stocking up on young talent, they have to do something to try to bring in some younger talent, and they can't do it via free agency right now with existing contracts. Danny Ainge knows he could win a championship this year and be out on his ass a few years later if the Celtics mortgage their future for this one season. I suspect if not for the Garnett and Allen deals in '07, that would have been Ainge's last season in Boston.
