Ohio State football: Tressel's emails were forwarded
Information sent to Pryor's mentor in his hometown

BY MIKE WAGNER AND TIM MAY
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

FRIDAY, MARCH 25, 2011
When Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel learned last spring that some of his current players were in trouble, he shared the information
with someone he thought could help his star quarterback even though he said he didn't tell his bosses.

Tressel forwarded the information to Ted Sarniak, a mentor to Terrelle Pryor, after the coach received emails warning that Pryor and at least
one other player had sold memorabilia to a local tattoo-parlor owner who was under federal investigation for drug trafficking, multiple sources
have confirmed to The Dispatch.

3. It is just a matter of time before Tress is gone .....

I bought the hype that John Edwards was a good guy and that although I didn't
cotton to his politics or religion I bought into the, "Tressel is cares about doing the
right thing" story. Botany = dumb

Bottom line he lied and helped to cover up problems in order to keep his star
players eligible to play in the 2010 season and if he had done the right thing
and come forward and the players were suspended for some if not all of the season
he might have lost a few more games but the University and the Athletic Program
would have looked good but because of his actions Ohio State is now seen nationwide
and with good reason as one more "football factory" where the ends justify the means.

4. Used-car gate...
There's a lot more to THAT story too - not least of which is, if TP was racking up these tickets (breaking the law), why isn't his license suspended? It sounds as if he was pulled over multiple times, more than once for speeding.

5. I'll say it again, no doubt Maurice Clarrett is a very bad person
BUT I think he's been right about Tressell being a big cheater.

6. Don't forget its these kids who are doing the dumb things to begin with. Now, we can question
his motives as to whether he was also covering his own ass, but who hasn't fibbed on behalf of a child, buddy or co-worker knowing full well that if you told the truth it could cost them a job, a marriage, school suspension, etc. He could have legitimately been trying to protect these kids' careers or he could have legitimately thought that if he went public that he could have messed up a police investigation or future trial.

I think another reason for the vitriol against Tressel is that he "sold" himself as a conservative, upstanding, apple pie and Jesus kind of guy, and its always good fun to smack someone down for their hypocrisy. I have no problem with that. I do it too. He may be a hypocrite, but I would rather have a hypocrite than a douchebag like Carrol, Kiffin, Dick-Rod, Saban, Miles, Meyer, Mangino, et al.

7. Tressel's job was in no way under pressure @ OSU and if he had done ....
... the right thing and came forward the players in question would have been
suspended for half the season and maybe Ohio State might have wound up 11-2
or 10 - 3 for the season and all this nonsense would be be in the review mirror now
and Jim would have had another monster recruiting year and be a preseason
top 10 again for 2011 ..... but Jim choose to lie / cover up some fairly some minor
infractions in order to keep his best players eligible to make another run at a
national championship.

From where i sit I see the NCAA having no choice but to strip all the wins from
last year's team and to drop the hammer on Ohio State and after that happens I
don't see Tressel staying on as head coach.

BTW Tressel had to fill out a form in August 2010, as do all Division 1 coaches, stating
that he know of no NCAA violations in his program. The NCAA will take a very dim view
of that action.

8. All valid points. I believe that I can speak for many tOSU fans when I say Pryor
has been more hassle than he has been worth. I'm sure that Tressel feels the same at this point.

As for Tressel stepping down, I don't see where that benefits them, particularly if it means that his stepping down does not take away the potential stripping of all the wins. Do you believe that if he does step down they will allow the wins? If they strip the wins does that mean he had a perfect 0-13 season?

10. I suppose you'd say the same thing if Michigan's coach did this, right?
