The SF Giants are producing an It Gets Better video
(cross posted from LGBT). This makes them the first professional team to do so.

<...> Lifelong Giants fan Sean Chapin began an online petition drive on the website change.org to get the Giants on board, and convinced more than 6,000 people to sign on.

"The San Francisco Giants are in an extraordinary position to lead the rest of the professional sporting world and possibly make the most important 'It Gets Better' video yet - not just as the recent world champion of Major League Baseball, but also as ambassadors of an iconic city, revered for celebrating diversity and differences with open arms," Chapin said in his own online video pitch to the Giants.

In an interview today, Chapin, a 35-year-old accountant who lives in San Francisco and works in Oakland, described the team's decision as a "breaking bubble" that will have profound reverberations.

Giants' spokeswoman Staci Slaughter said today that the team already had been thinking of joining the campaign before Chapin started his petition drive, but his efforts speeded things up. She said the exact content of the video, and which if any players or members of the coaching staff will participate, has not been determined.

1. Interesting that none of the usual suspects..
i.e. Giants haters, aren't weighing in to give the organization any credit on this issue..

2. I will give them credit
I think the Giants have pretty good ownership/management frankly ( I dislike some of the players but I don't really hate them) and this is a good thing. It's been my observation that this is one of the better fan oriented franchises. They often seem to do good promotions . All credit to them for this

5. You confuse hatred with apathy, Upton.
Again, I believe I speak for a lot of us here. Too many Giant threads. It might be a good idea to petition the mods to get your own little group. That way you can have your own little circle jerk amongst yourselves. And the Sports Forum can go back to being the sacred place it once was. Best wishes!

and perhaps you ought to take a little gander on the first page. There's not one thread started by me on the Giants...not a one.

Best wishes to you too!

7. I had to actually open up the link to see what it was all about. The quoted
text had no reference to the project was.

8. What "Giant-haters" Upton?
I have always given the Giants credit for the great things they do off the field. I'm not surprised they're doing this...I think they were the first to have "Until There's A Cure Day." They've always been at the forefront of social issues.

I also saw that home game they did with the Dodgers right after that attack on the Giants fan. They had one of the Giants players, I can't remember who it was, and Jamey Carroll of the Dodgers go out on the field before the game and thank the fans and encourage them not to seek revenge. "Real fans respect the rivalry" A class move all the way. I very much appreciated that gesture.

btw, anyone else see the article on Timmy "The Freak" Lincecum in, I think it was the April issue of Playboy?
