As Brandon Crawford circled the bases, slapping his hands between first and second, he had no clue what his singular achievement meant for his teammates, the Giants organization and a fan base still in shock - no, mourning - over Buster Posey's devastating injury.
With time, he might understand the catharsis he provided. In the glow of the moment, a 24-year-old shortstop who was playing Class A ball two nights earlier knew only that he accomplished a feat that even a child's imagination would not conjure.
In his first major-league game, and third at-bat, Crawford hit a grand slam in the seventh inning Friday night against Shaun Marcum, one of baseball's stingiest pitchers, giving the Giants a two-run lead and ultimately a 5-4 victory. Their losing streak ended at three games.
