No matter what, this US Open will break a bunch of records.

Rory is 10 under second place, even if at this point he should have a melt-down, the biggest comeback in US Open history is 7. But he's showing no signs of cracking, he's just having fun with it.

Largest lead, lowest score vs par in an Open.

Plus it couldn't be done by a nicer guy than Mr. McIlroy.

4. He's been knocking on that door for the last 3 or 4 majors.
I think he learned a lot about not playing too defensively.

6. I am 100% in favor of any outcome that removes Tiger Woods from the national discourse.
And McIlroy is an awesome talent. His accomplishment this weekend is extraordinary - US Opens are brutal, to say the least.

And he's going to win.
And he's going to be set for life, from here on in.

16 under with 5 holes left?

Tiger who?

Rory, is having a VERY good day.

12. Ok fine. But will it change your life tommorrow in a financial way? Sports
doesn't do anything for me. Life will not change tommorrow wheter they win or loose. It doesn't put food on my table or a paycheck in my pocket. These sports people are all overpaid. Who gives a crap really. 2 hours of wasted time that accomplishes nothing.

14. Aw,come on. Following sports is like seeing a good movie or listening to good
music.

It's entertainment for most of us.

20. I don't follow golf...
but I do baseball and football. I work a stressful job, deal with stressful news when I come home, and worry about my wife's health issues. Sometimes just sitting down and watching a baseball game is all that stops me from coming apart at the seams.

26. That is EXACTLY the point of following sports...
In sport, life will not change tomorrow whether or not one wins or loses. Whether or not a TEAM wins or loses. Not so in the game of life. When one loses in life, it's usually a relationship, career, loved one, or other anguish-inducing loss, if not life itself. When one loses in sport, they almost always come back to play another day from the same starting point.

It's an innocent form of escapism not worthy of your derision. In fact, you wasted more time posting about your dislike of sport than was effective.

I find posting OP's titled "FUCK BUSH!" to be much more rewarding than spending time posting about things other people choose to be entertained by.

13. Wow, -16.
Next is -7.

(Haven't seen Davis Love in a while, but I have not followed golf much for a number of years. Used to follow many sports, especially tennis, but too many other things have dominated recently)

He handled the collapse at the Masters quite well, and he's pretty much dominated from start to finish this week. Cheers, Rory! :toast:

They have to be up there in funds raised for charities.

Plus courses are becoming more sensitive to the environment and providing songbird cover.

He's won !

Lovely twitter note on the BBC site : Yang's par putt dribbles close but not in, and McIlroy has eight putts from a foot to win the US Open.

29. One word: Medicus. Do they even make those things any longer?
I'd honestly say that mine, a 5-iron, added 20-30 yards to my drive and stopped ALL mishits due to the rythm it imparted.

and a device you strap to the club that measures swing speed, too.

32. I'd be happy with a 58 on the first 9 holes.
My handicap is standing too close to the ball.

That's after I've hit it.

I always was pants. I played recently after about a 15 year break and busted a vein in my arm which had turned completely black by the next day. Soon recovered - fortunately.

31. Rory is amazing to watch in person
Little guy but the ball rockets off the club face, impossibly high.

I knew he was ultra special at 2009 at Doral, when the other players and caddies were mesmerized while watching him tee off. Normally they are tinkering with a headcover and basically don't care. All eyes were on Rory.

His quick aggressive putting this week, minus a practice stroke, was the greatest departure from Augusta, where he got nervous on the greens on Sunday.
